Thats Microsofts way of saying they don't know. Just an excuse until tech support figures it out.

I'm ready to throw my zune out the window. I have the original zune with the new firmware. It worked great for the first two days. Than the battery went dead. Ever since I've had nothing but problems. Now when I plug my zune into my laptop, it keeps trying to boot there is a clicking sound than it goes through the reboot cycle. After about a half hour of this it finally goes to the start up screen. I thought great. I won't touch it and let it charge up. So I don't touch it all day. I spent the time trying to fix the album art problem, which I did with help from the forms. Thanks guys. Back to the zune. So I finally try to use my zune. As soon as I touch it the screen goes blank and it starts the whole cycle of trying to boot up again. So I plug it in and go to bed. I figured if it charges all night it has to work. Wrong. The same cycling occurs if I touch a button. The zune software won't recognize my zune. I finally figured out a way to play my zune, though. I have to start playing it while it is still on the sync wire, unplug it and be careful not to touch any buttons. This is very frustrating. I have had my zune since May and have never had a problem. This new update has me about ready to toss it in the trash. Maybe I can get an Ipod for Christmas.

I'm having the same battery depletion issue (among other problems) with my Zune30 since the update. I see that I am hardly alone. I never had a day's trouble with my device before the update and it's been one long frustration since Nov. 13th. Has the Zune team addressed this problem somewhere because I don't seem to be able to find anything. Are they likely to provide a fix or are we just stuck with devices that need constant charging?

Yep, same story with a 1st Gen 30gig device. This is crap, needs to be fixed. I'm very frustrated right now.

Im pretty sure the problem comes from the hibernate mode, because Im having the same problem here as the rest of you, however if I just leave my zune on, I get over 12 hours of play including looking through my library every few songs. I will test it now. I have my fully charged zune and Im just going to put it in hibernate. Ill post the results later tonight.

I'm having the same problem with not keeping the charge and when connected it will act like its first connected several times rebooting the Zune. This has only started with the new update. Are they going to fix this???? This is very frustrating. I like some of the new features, but my battery is drained all the time.

This is absolutely unbelievable. My Zune 30 has always worked great but now I'm also having this same battery discharge issue. Microsoft better get on top of this issue. This is ridiculous !!

I agree -- what the hell! This has got to be one of the most botched launches I have ever witnessed.
My Zune 30 and my girlfriend's have worked perfectly for months. Since the update I've had log-in issues and now we both have batteries that either go dead in a day -- or even worse -- Zunes that WON'T CHARGE or SYNC.
I'm especially pissed off because I am planning to take my Zune with me on my international flight this weekend and was hoping to listen to a bunch of stuff I had downloaded with my Zune pass.
WTF!

Has anyone gotten a current response from Level 2 tech support on this? There is OBVIOUSLY an issue here that wasn't present before the latest firmware update. They MUST be getting tons of calls on this now. I'm wondering if they are even aknowledging yet that there is a glitch or if they are still blaming it on everyone's device just all of a sudden having battery issues out of coincidence?

I was able to make mine charge without shutting off -- see if it works for you.
I got the zune to turn on (not plugged in). Once on, I quickly started playing music. Then, while playing, I plugged it into the computer and quickly closed the Zune program so it wouldn't sync.
I left the zune playing and it did not turn off -- it just continued to charge. We'll see about syncing it later I guess.
For those of you on the fence considering an iPod.... if you don't need/want a Zune Pass subscription -- get an iPod. It does absolutely everything better than the Zune does and the software is much better as well.

Yeah, that didn't even work for me. It just turns off after a couple seconds even though it's supposed to be charging. This is really really weird. It's almost like it's using the battery up faster than it can even charge it. I'm giving up on this for tonight, will call scary tech support tommorrow to hear the standard rhetoric. Pretty pissed that my perfectly good Zune that was working fine for a year has now been reduced to a piece of junk by an apparant firmware update bug. We'll see what happens, this should be interesting. MICROSOFT ....YOO HOO....WHAT'S THE DEAL ????
