Sorry to bring this up from the dead, there are so many post on this same topic so I just decided to pick this one.
+1 for the option to change your Zunetag
Having to pay with actual cash is too much. However, maybe implementing a point system having to do with your badges/plays which allow you to "purchase" the right to change your tag would work. I also like the idea somebody mentioned above about how ebay lets you change it once per X number of months.

I'm not so sure about 30,000 plays, changing your username shouldn't be such a big deal. bBeing able to change your username once every six months or so would be much simpler.
I know I wouldnt want to pay money for something like my username

I just wanted to remind you guys what the screen looks like where you sign up for a Zune Tag. Check out the image at the link below.

If it's not clear from this page, what else should this page say or have on it? When I look at it, it seems pretty clear to me - but I'm open to suggestions from you on how to improve the understanding here of what you're supposed to be doing.

It is not clear that you will never be able to change it or may be subject to a fee to do so. The information needs to be communicated to consumers more effectively. Looking at that sign-up, one would think they would pick anything now and then change it later. I do that very often when signing up for something, especially if I can't think of anything or what I want it taken. That is of course, unless it identifies it can't be changed then I will either think of something on the spot or altogether abandon the registration process until I am ready.
