But laying the plan and getting our ducks in a row in the meantime cant hurt.  If MS puts out a fix, then great, I'm happy to have made the phone calls and gathered the information for nothing.  Otherwise.....I'd like to be prepaired.

As for tax payers.....juist how much of your tax dollars do you think this would take?  The answer to that is none.  In a pro bono civil suit the losing party pays all court costs.  Not the tax payers, so that isnt even a valid concern.

Good point.  Being prepared is always a good thing.  With regards to tax payers, I'm referring to the time spent in court on something as 'frivolous' as this instead of something serious.  Sure, it's a money based concern and money is always serious...but I think you get my point.

And yes, M$ should AT LEAST confirm the incident instead of (seemingly) trying to let it 'fade away'.  All I'm sayin' is, let's not call for Gates' head on a stick yet. LOL!!

Dude, why would I want Gate's head on a stick?  there isnt enough frabreze to take out that kind of stink :P
I just want to see MS make a public statement of accountability and at least offer the registered Zune 30g owners, whether still in their first year and under warranty or not, some sort of gesture of good will to let us know they value our patronage and want us to continue doing business with them.

I understand that the 30g brisk is old and rapidly growing obsolete (although my wife liked my original zune better than her 80gig ipod, heh), and I do realize that it's depreciated in value considerably, but....let's just say the Evil Empire were to offer original Zune owners a customer loyalty certificate worth say, $50?  Hell even $20 would be awesome, towards a newer generation of the Zune...

The point being that this would establish to the loyal Zune fans and current customers that the product is stood behind and while there may or may not be many reasons why they cant be fixed, mostly due to post-issue customer invalidation of warranty which was only committed because of the leap year flaw in the first place, then even non-zune fans and non-MS customers would be given a reason to see this in a more positive light.  It's simple manufacturer courtesy to extend a gesture of good will to the current customer base when something like this happens to retain brand loyalty amongst the customers and potentially grow the customer base.

And it makes the customers feel more appreciated and that their loyalty is highly valued.  Which causes repeat business.  And ultimately, for a company with the goals Microsoft has, repeat business is the long term sustenance that the company needs to survive.

just sayin'

I wasn't referring to you specifically. ;-)

I agree with you 100%.  TRUE customer service is a lost art form and I'd LOVE to help bring it back.

re: Help-frozen zune!!!!

Ok so I made various posts on this board about my Zune not working but it finally works now :)

I left that batt. drain till I saw the batt. logo,  then to drain it more I would push the pause button every once in awhile to drain it some more till nothing would come on.

I left it sit overnight like that then plugged it in to a wall oulet and left it sit on the charger for about 5 hrs or longer , and it has been working fine since , even sync it to the pc afterwards.

Good luck and hope everyone gets their Zune back ........ that wants it back :)

I don't need to.  My question was rhetorical.

re: Help-frozen zune!!!!
Just got mine to work ten min ago. i drained the battery for over a day until toggling the hold button no longer produced the battery wit the exclamation point. i plugged it back into computer and waited for it to gain sufficient charge to reboot.IMPORTANT: KEEP ZUNE IN YOUR HAND! i then waited for the reboot screen to start, before it finishes loading press and hold back, left, center buttons to erase all content and reset zune firmware. then use the zune software to update to 3.0 follow instructions on the screen to restore zune software. make sure battery is fully dead before proceeding. patience is a definite virtue because it wsn't fully dead the first time i tried it. so be patient it should work

The Gigabeat, on which the Zune 30 was based, was affected as well.

Bad news, better news

First the bad... the Zune 30 clock issue ultimately killed my Zune 30. The constant battery draining trying to get it reset killed the battery where it will not hold a charge any longer.

Better news, my wife gave me a new Zune 120 for Christmas. Now I get to enjoy it for a couple of years before some unknown problem kills it... it may not even last that long. Who knows. I love the Zune when it works right. But when it doesn't, its a royal pain in the butt and the wallet.
