re: WANTED: Zunepad Feedback <stickied>
Recently, mines has been mixing up press and hold with each other when I press or hold the left side of the zune pad; even if I hold it down, sometimes it will act only like I pressed it quickly. It was fine before the 3.1 update though >>

re: WANTED: Zunepad Feedback <stickied>

Some things I’d like to hear about:

·         What was your initial experience with the Zunepad? It is very refined and intuitive, more so than ipod devices.

·         How did you learn how to use the Zunepad?  (Experimentation, friend showed me, website, etc.) Trial and error.  I often use it on the run or on the bike.

·         Did you face any difficulties while learning how to use it?  I have mine in a Speck case.  This markedly reduces sensitivity and makes navigation difficult, with frequent incorrect clicks.

·         How long did it take you to discover the touch navigation features?

·         How long did it take you to become comfortable with touch navigation after you discovered it?

I’m also interested in any detailed feedback you have, such as:

·         Do you experience any incorrect clicks or dropped clicks? Yes, with the speck case on, it does this often.  This should not necessarily be the case, since it is a mechanical motion.

·         Does the touch navigation respond well?  Not with speck case on.  Yes with it off.  Is this thing heat sensitive or what?

·         When using touch navigation, do you ever accidentally get a vertical movement when you meant to do a horizontal movement, or vice versa?  Yes!  All the time, this feature needs improvement, even outside the speck case.  Also, I find that when I am pushing down to navigate and then move to the up position to navigate back up, it keeps moving down!  Wierd.

·         Does the Zunepad behave consistently?  See above.

·         Do you use your Zune with one hand or two?

·         Which part of your finger do you use on the Zunepad?  (Because of the way I hold it I tend to use the side of my thumb right next to my thumbnail.)-->Yep.  Always the thumb of the right hand.

Suggested features:  Please find a way to navigate BACK to different submenus from the zune pad itself.  I find it annoying to have to press the small back button.

Here's the deal:  Find a way to confidently navigate your zune with no eyes!  Ipod users can routinely do this, but it has taken me a long time to do this properly.  This is partially because it is in a rubber case.

I still think double tapping the pad should count as a center click. Would be most useful, no?

My zune pad is screwed up. The bezel is loose and the clicks are a bit off as well. Up especially doesn't respond well. Sending it in for repair. Mostly I use it with touch off and keep the zune in a neoprene case. I tend to listen to hour to 2 hour long podcasts.

re: WANTED: Zunepad Feedback <stickied>
First off, I would like to say that I think the touchpad concept is excellent!  I have had my Zune 4 for a little over a year.  After about 6 months of use, I found that the directional buttons aren't nearly as responsive as they should be.  Fortunately, the touch portion still works great.  I don't know, but it would seem to me that the buttons would be extremely difficult to fix.  I don't know if this is a major issue or if it's been addressed already, but it might be something to consider.  Otherwise, keep up the good work!

re: WANTED: Zunepad Feedback <stickied>

Some things I’d like to hear about:

·         What was your initial experience with the Zunepad?

It's a big improvement over Zune 1.0

·         How did you learn how to use the Zunepad?  (Experimentation, friend showed me, website, etc.)

It was experimentation for me.

·         Did you face any difficulties while learning how to use it?

Not really, it's pretty straight forward, the only difficulties will be listed later on.

·         How long did it take you to discover the touch navigation features?

I pretty much knew from the get go what they were going to be like b/c I had read a lot about Zune 2.0 before purchasing one.

·         How long did it take you to become comfortable with touch navigation after you discovered it?

About two days.

I’m also interested in any detailed feedback you have, such as:

·         Do you experience any incorrect clicks or dropped clicks

Yes, about 30% of the time. When I push down it will select something different than what I wanted to select, making Sudoku pretty annoying and of course selecting the wrong track, album or artist when playign music.

·         Does the touch navigation respond well?

It picks up movement pretty well, with the exception of the above mentioned.

·         When using touch navigation, do you ever accidentally get a vertical movement when you meant to do a horizontal movement, or vice versa?

nope

·         Does the Zunepad behave consistently?

NOPE, as George W. Bush said, "The only thing consistent about my opponent's position is that he's been inconsistent"

·         Do you use your Zune with one hand or two?

BOTH...one hand when playing music and two hands when playing games.

·         Which part of your finger do you use on the Zunepad?  (Because of the way I hold it I tend to use the side of my thumb right next to my thumbnail.)

Mostly like you said I use that part of my thumb, but sometimes when playing games (especially Sudoku)

·         Etc…

That's about the skinny of it...in reinventing the wheel, I would probably make the pad a little larger (then again, maybe not) with a touch modification to only allow the middle part to be used for clicks unless you are scrolling and have already touched a bottom or top extreme. Otherwise I think it was a great improvement and only needs some minor tweaks.

re: WANTED: Zunepad Feedback <stickied>

The Zunepad is great! One has to love the device in its entirety!

HOWEVER - The touch pad is quite sensitive and almost to the point of being a problem for your average user (assuming I as a 35yr old male is the "Average user").

The problem is when you have a larger storage capacity device 80GB - 120GB and you have over 5000 songs or even more 10,000+ that you must scroll quite often to acheive or reach the song/video that you are looking for. Although the "holding it down" and it hits you with the alphabetical "scrolling" is nice, it's REALLY fast and you find you often overshoot it by one letter. No problem right? well when you scroll down to get to the "S" category and accidentally make it to "T" not a biggie right? Unless you have 100 different "S" artists/albums/etc......and you find yourself repeatedly scrolling to find what you're looking for.

I was disappointed not so much in the pad - the pad works great touch "on" or touch "off" but my frustration with the "controls" would be eliminated if the Zune could be configured in a manner in which Windows could be configured (with folders). Then we could make our own folders (label them Rock, Pop, Rap, Metal, Mom, Dad, Etc) or for me it would be nice to have folders that say (A,B,C,D,E,.......X,Y,Z) that way I only have 26 "folders" to scan through to reach the area I want!

All in all, I am pleased with the touch pad.....it's comfortable. Somewhat senitive (when I am on "artist" and getting ready to select a song, it often goes to the right selecting "playlists" when I'm trying to confirm the playing of a song).......not a huge problem, just an observation!

Thanks for the great products though - you may want to talk to Marketing though nd get the "HYPE" back into the Zune - Ipod seems to have capitalized on the market and like the "Tissue" everyone knows it as a KLEENEX.........still not too late......get ZUNE back into the public's eye and maybe we'll remember these devices as a ZUNE and not an IPOD.......it's unfortunate as I personally am a Zune fan and still have my first generation Zune.....

Thanks again!

add me to the tap list. i love the squircle. the only bothersome thing is you get wrong selections when center clicking due to the finger not being centered. doubletap would eleviate it i think.

re: WANTED: Zunepad Feedback <stickied>

I Have a Black Zune 80 2.0 Originals, bought summer of 08 and love the ZunePad over the clicking of my old 30. But there are some things that could make the experience better for all touch units and help the pad for future models.

Zune Pad Questions asked.

·         What was your initial experience with the Zunepad?

It's a big step from what the Zune 1.0 used to be.

·         How did you learn how to use the Zunepad?  (Experimentation, friend showed me, website, etc.)

I saw it used interactivly a little on one from one person scrolling, and i just guessed the rest.

·         Did you face any difficulties while learning how to use it?

No.

·         How long did it take you to discover the touch navigation features?

First time I used it I knew.

·         How long did it take you to become comfortable with touch navigation after you discovered it?

It took me 3 day to adjust from navigating with my old 30 to the new ZunePad that is offered.

I’m also interested in any detailed feedback you have, such as:

·         Do you experience any incorrect clicks or dropped clicks?

Only when my finger is in the wrong place of the pad thus clicking down when I want to click the center and I would go down. But when I click in the proper area everything responds fine.

·         Does the touch navigation respond well?

Yes

·         When using touch navigation, do you ever accidentally get a vertical movement when you meant to do a horizontal movement, or vice versa?

no

·         Does the Zunepad behave consistently?

?

·         Do you use your Zune with one hand or two?

Two more than one since I have a 80 and its extrememly special to me.

·         Which part of your finger do you use on the Zunepad?  (Because of the way I hold it I tend to use the side of my thumb right next to my thumbnail.)

Same way you explain you do in the example.

·         Etc…

I like the pad the way it is, but sometime there will need to be a change (which I expected in the 3 gen. model.) Maybe a really stretched flush one, or a full touch, finger placement is a big thing I have with pad, for example if I’m in the dark it’s hard to see if your’ in the center of the pad unlike the remote u can feel depressions in the click pad or like the 30s pad. I also think a double tap in the center of the zunepad would be cool rather than always having to click the pad, which could make the whole pad full touch navigation.(this feature could be a upgrade throughout all models with touch too)

ME TOO!!!  I hate it.  I always press up or back while trying to press the middle.  Maybe double tap can be used for a middle click as well?  I was thinking a dimple to help set your finger on the "middle" of the pad.  but it might affect finger slide scrolling?

re: WANTED: Zunepad Feedback <stickied>

I've only had my Zune 80 for around 6 months, and my zunepad is completely unresponsive. I can't scroll up, down, left, or right and I can't click using the zunepad either. The "play" and "back" buttons still work, though.

I personally dislike the zunepad because it starts out scrolling so slowly, then WAY too fast. Also, I have around 2000 songs on mine, and when I'm scrolling through the songs, it can take forever to get to the one I'm looking for. I'd love it if you could skip ahead to a certain letter to speed things up. It's quite silly to NOT have this feature on an 80GIG device capable of holding THOUSANDS of songs.
