Music Collection Issues

We are looking into it, we're here participating, and your information helps us determine the root cause of what's going on.

I do have one theory that I'd like to chase down a little further:  For the albums that are sharing album art inappropriately, are the source files sharing a single common directory? (e.g. are the Anthrax and Aerosmith files living in the same directory in your hard drive?)

Can you be a bit more specific about exactly what is "messed up" in different albums each time you let the .SDF file get rebuilt?  Is it tracks being associated with the wrong albums?  Wrong album art applied to an otherwise correct album?  Something else? That may help us determine how best to troubleshoot your issue.

Also, if you do a complete uninstall-reinstall, the software will attempt to re-migrate your v1 library if you haven't renamed or moved the CurrentDatabase_365.wmdb file as described near the beginning of the thread, which can cause the problem to re-appear again.  If you don't uninstall, the migration shouldn't occur again after the initial attempt.

1 person out of 20 seems like a great success rate, don't you think? By your logic, if one person's software works, then it works. Equally then, by your logic, if one person's does not work, then it does not work as well. I'm seriously happy that yours worked great (I wish mine did as well), but let's not down-play that the update is not working for many, many people.

But seriously: I'm sure I will be able to figure out how to fix this eventually, however, do you honestly think that the average person with little to no advanced computer knowledge is going to be able to fix this? Seriously?

I understand that you had a "great success" with your albums, but the fact of the matter is that many people are having issues. We should not have to "fix" something that is an "update."

As this post is proof, some people just want their things to work.

so this worked about 75% of the way most of my music is back to normal but it looks as if some of my albums are still separated and with wrong album art all of my files are correct so it looks like this is the first step to a total fix any word on a update i love my zune i just want all my music to be together in the right place

Using a similar fix to the one described (I wiped out the entire Zune folder), I've managed to recover alot of my library, and using mp3tagging software told it that on my "Singles" album (All my single songs I've got), that the album artist is "Various Artists", which put them back into one Album. The problem I now have is a bit less important but still random, in that the SW isn't picking up the "Artist" tag on most of the songs. Alot of them are just coming up "Various Artist", but when I'm checking with MP3tag or Media Monkey, the Artist is the songs specific artist. I've tried rebuilding the library a few times, but to no success.

I was unable to find these files/locations. 

I'm having the same issues described in this string:

• Albums/artists incorrectly allocated
• Album covers incorrectly placed
• Only playing 30seconds of certain songs

I have also lost the use of my Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000 Play/Pause control buttons to control the player.

Using Vista Home Premium and just updated Zune software. 

I'll try to respond to both Zune reps at the same time.

Specifically what's messed up is that tracks are being associated with the wrong album.  Wrong album art is also associated with the wrong album.  On top of all that, it doesn't find about 20% of my collection.  I originally rebuilt my collection using the renaming strategy on the first page of hte thread and while there was an improvement, it was still about 1/3rd scrambled.  I tried it again and it actually got worse. 

For the guy above you, the songs aren't in the same directory.  I have Wierd Al Yankovic stuff getting thrown in with Tool's Lateralus, some of it in Three Days Grace's One X album, and random songs thrown everywhere.

On top of all of this, each time I try to rebuild my collection using the rename strategy it scrambles the individual song descriptions!  Nearly every song in my collection now has random tags from other songs/albums.  Miraculously Zune still finds about half of them correctly, but now Windows Media Player plays songs based on their new tags!  Basically, as it is now, my music collection (Around 15 Gigs of stuff) is totally unusable.

Any sort of help with that issue especially would be greatly appreciiated.

I was having issues with misplaced files, 30s songs, and incorrect album art.  I used the "fix" on page 1 (renaming the wmdb and sdf files) and that appears to have fixed the problem with my tracks.  However, I still have incorrect album art.

I'm having all of the same issues as everyone else!  I hope that Microsoft is all over this working on a fix!

I can't believe that they would release this without thorough testing.

 

Hi i tried the fix and I found new fun witrh the fact that 1 I have to resync my zune due to it thinking Ive synced to another pc in the last 5 seconds and 2 that I had to resubscribe to podcasts.

I still have the problem that misc podcasts are viewable in other podcasts list like inside mac news(don't ask) and its viewable it casts like the dl.tv podcast.

Well, what if you were stupid enough to select "automatically update media info" in the install and now your entire collection is completely trashed? I've got Blondie in Billy Joel, Beck in Rilo Kiley, Feist in Brenda Kahn, ...etc. And the meta data has been updated to reflect these changes, so my library, is well, hosed. Totally. Fracked beyond belief. Unusable. This a complete mess, and it's going to take me weeks to undo the damage, Your re-scanning suggestion only made it worse. 

I'm going to have to back out, go back to wmp, reset all my album info on god knows how many albums, search for album info, go through all that crap. etc. etc. This is going to take weeks to fix. Blah.

Can anyone recommend some 3rd party mp3 tagging software we can use to undo the dmage Zune caused? This is going to take weeks in wmp..
