If it needs to be repaired, generally you will get the same device back.

Also, I want to mention to everyone, I would recommend that you don't open your Zune's up and try to reset the battery or any other Zune surgery.

Yep. It just hit the Wall Street Journal.

Has anyone had any luck just waiting for the battery to die then restarting? Sounds like a few have tried it with no success. I'm hoping it has worked for someone.

I have no idea how they're going to fix this one with software if they keep freezing on reboot. Guess I may as well brace myself for a month with no Zune while waiting for a replacement. I'd wager they're going to handle this one like the red ring of death XBox problem.

My 30 Gig Zune is frozen at the startup screen also.  Now what?

Matt you have to tell man, i got my zune last year around late October and my zune doesn't have a Warranty. If i have to send in my zune will have to pay for repair

HELLO Happy NYE or sadly
I live in Puerto Rico and I have the same problem. I have 2 30gb white and all my music for the parties are in my ZUNE. I demand any explanation of this problems. I'm very frustrated with this situation. Today my family have a party and I have to bring the music!!!!!!! Somebody of the team said someting. I need a explanation. What happend? How only the zune 30gb is only freezing? How Microsoft play with us like that? I belive Microsoft don't know of  this problem.

I waiting a explanation.

My battery died after a few hours, so it takes a little bit.

Hi,
It's going to be very interesting to see how M$ is going to fix this debacle; right after it 'froze' I plugged it into my PC, absolutely nothing happened, it was not recognized with or without Zune app loaded. Tried troubleshooting hardware devices the best it had to offer was unplug, re-plug that did nothing. There was another software update a while back that caused many problems, but nothing this serious.

this all sucks ... i forgot my password to my zune account and my email is an old account so i cant send my password to my email so that i can change it to my new email .... i have been on hold with microsoft for about an hour now ...thank God for speaker option on cell phones ... my zune froze up last night and i dont understand how they can fix it ...when i hook it up to my computer it does not read it ... reading all yalls post ... i have unpluged my zune and hope it dies ... lol .. well battery wise ... its so sad to see it in a coma state ...   Smile [:)] the only thing i am scared of is missing out on what microsoft will do ... like i am going to walk away from the computer and miss something ... lol ... sad sad sad ... its new years eve i dont want to mess with this !!

it died completely and when i plugged it in it went back to the frozen screen
