I didn't use that specific button combo on my Zune, but it froze today and I decided it was time for a format and a clean install. I haven't used it since the format, so I'll have to see how it works

I have the Zune 80. Following your lead did cause the Zune to lock. The unlock sequence works fine as well. I haven't run into this on my own, but can see how this can be an aggrivation.

Yes please fix this, I often switch album/song. This is no bueno. Zune > ipod. Make it so.

Sorry all......I still have not been able to replicate this. I have 1st gen Zune 30GB...purchased on Black Friday November 2006....with about 10GB of space available. My only thought is I think the 2nd firmware update took care of freezing and skipping issues the early Zune had....since then I have never had any skipping or regular freezing on my device. Occasionally it will freeze on playing but once the HDD catches up it is fine...maybe once or twice a month....I can't remember the last time it happened tho.

One suggestion is to reformat your device to include removing the firmware and then re-installing it.......just remember if you do this it removes ALL CONTENT from your device and you have to sync everything onto it again. Maybe your device has a corrupted firmware update somehow....no clue all!!??

Zune is AWESOME!!...since Nov 2006 Black30GB and Pink30GB (my wifes'!!!)

Refomatting and reinstalling the firmware on these devices does not fix the problem.  The problem is related to the 3.0 firmware for sure.  These freezing issues never existed with 2.5.  Both of my Zunes are freezing and this never happened with 2.5.  Also, I've refomatted them both 3 times each already and the problem is still there.

I got this problem too (original 30GB). For some reason, videos work fine. I really hope there's an update soon to fix this.

I also have a problem with some songs not repeating when I hit the left button during the last 10-ish seconds. The repeat function hasn't worked since I got my Zune a year ago...

Has anyone tried it on a 4, 8, or 16gb flash?  Couldn't the "bug" just be the hard drive catching up since you are pressing the buttons fast, since it goes back to working normally a few minutes after it freezes?  Not saying there is not a bug, just a thought.

This is a major problem for those of us with shorter attention spans.  It kills me to have to wait until the next song starts sometimes.  I'm too used to instant gratification.

A friend and I both have Zune 30 GBs. She has smaller WMA files (VBR) on hers and I have MP3s at 192 Kbps. On the last 10 seconds of a song, if you try to change to another song without pausing the playback, the Zune becomes unresponsive (my Zune w/ MP3s) or will start the song's elapsed time bar without playing the song (my friend's Zune). This seems to happen a bit less when the EQ is turned off, but at other times it will still freeze.
