re: 80GB freezes (occasionally) on play.
Mine did that a couple minutes after the 3.0 update and was tottally unresponsice so I just let the battery drain overnight and recharged it later that day and no more freezing.

That's very interesting. Someone else mentioned the battery being the cause. But why? Incorrect voltage/current supplied to the device? There still seems no definitive answer. I would like to see a mod/dev address the issue considering it seems to be a common problem.

Wow. I did that yesterday (wasn't trying to fix this problem, but wanted to recalibrate the battery meter), and I haven't gotten any freezes yet. An odd solution, but it seems to have done the trick.

EDIT: Never mind. Got another freeze. Guess draining the battery down didn't help.

Have found a way to dupliacte the freeze on 80G black. During the last 15sec of a song, hit back then back again to get the song list, scroll through the list, pick one, then hit enter twice to play it. Freezes on the Play.

If that were the case then completely erasing the device and reloading it (firmware and all) wouldn't change anything.

In my case it did, so it sounds more like a software glitch than anything else.

I noticed this without even testing it. Mine does the same thing, and has been since the 3.0 fix. I'm not going to call support on it yet, as it seems that a lot of people are having the same problem, and hopefully they'll patch it quickly here. I have found a quick, jerry rigged fix though. Instead of just hitting play, add the song you start with to your now playing list. That will start it playing like normal. Then, when you switch songs, just add it to the now playing list also. If you're in the middle of the song, just hit the next button after. This worked for me with no freezes.

One of the keys to confirming a bug is whether it can be replicated. Will try it. Thanks.

[EDIT] Crap, right on the money. Nice work. I didn't expect it would be that simple. I would like to see if everyone on this thread can confirm it as well, but I'm pretty sure now this is it. How did you go about figuring that out? Or did it just occur to you?

It doesn't work for me in the last 15 seconds, but it does work in the last 10.

Additionally, it doesn't have to be a single track play, it can be a "play all" of an album, or an artist.

Great find! I'm sure this will help the dev team.

EDIT: Additionally, this provides a temporary workaround--don't switch songs in the last 10 seconds of the previous song. Either wait for it to completely finish, or use now playing.

re: 80GB freezes (occasionally) on play.
I don't know if this is related, but I got a 120gb from the Microsift store on the morning it was released. It keeps shutting down all the time. I haven't even gotten to listen to a complete song yet. I have tried letting the battery go dead and then re-charging, I have wiped and then re-installed the firmware - both with no luck. Reading other posts about possible a static thing I turn it on and just leave it on the table or counter and it shuts off. So, unless it is generating its own static electricity, I'm not completely sure that this is the issue. I am starting, and hoping, that I have a defective battery issue or something as I relly love everything else about it.

This thread is talking about the same thing check out what they're saying. http://forums.zune.net/2/2/334200/ShowPost.aspx#334200

What kinds of Zunes is this effecting? I have a 30 that it's happening to and obviously 80's but what about the flash Zunes?

re: 80GB freezes (occasionally) on play.

Since my 3.0 upgrade it continually freezes on videos and on songs.

Since i bought it, it has played my music and movies flawlessly, with extremely infrequent need for reset/reboot.

I am disappointed with the update, severely.

I am also a bit surprised at the attitudes expressed here.  One person complains, a bit rudely i admit, and a few people here go after him.  But his complaint has a valid source.

Do i expect everything to work perfectly?  uh.  yes?  Do i understand that sometimes glitches happen?  yes. of course.

to suggest that such errors are acceptable, or that someone objecting to them is wrong is foolish.

So yea, I expect my zune to work most of the time, with occasional oopses.  But now, every time i play something it bombs.  Sorry that don't cut it.
