re: Firmware issues
5 hours into my work day, and the battery just went down 1 notch with wireless on. Its seems normal now, but I think the problem comes from hibernate mode.

re: The Empty Battery
I might of found a fix for this problem everyone..charge your Zune fully and then do a hard reset on it (back button + up button) and let it reset.  Then see how long your battery life is.  Mine was doing this, but it's been two days and my battery has not done this.  I seem to be getting even better battery life than I was before.  I'm thinking that the Zune might not of reset itself when the new firmware went on it and so it needs to be reset fully.  I would make sure to charge your zune all the way up though first..just to be sure it reads it correctly then.

re: The Empty Battery
I'm having this same problem as well!  It was fully charged last night.  I just went to turn it on ten minutes and ago, and it's totally dead!  This is the second time this has happened since I bought my Zune last Thursday.  Frankly, it's starting to get on my nerves!

re: The Empty Battery
Blackaciddevil98 thanks for the tip.  I will give this a try.  I love my Zune and I love the new Zune software even more (except for the lack of tag editing) but what good is it if I cant keep my Zune running for more than 5 minutes.  I hope Msoft is watching this and get's it resolved quickly.

Ah, it works! Fully charge it, and instead of holding down Play to turn it off (which won't turn it off), hold BACK+DOWN. It will turn off completely. No battery issues. Still, they should fix the hibernating issue.

re: The Empty Battery
I had this happen the first day of the new firmware. Fully charged (I thought) in the morning. Brought it in to work, left it in my laptop bag, pulled it out late in the afternoon to sync and it was dead.

Since then, I've not had any problems with the battery, even with wireless on.

I don't use the "hold the play/pause button" hardly ever, but I seem to remember doing so on the day the batterh died.

Yes, to fully shut the unit down, hold the back button + down on the Dpad.  The hibernate mode is sucking battery.

re: The Empty Battery
I have been having the exact same issues since I installed the latest update.  When I try to turn on my Zune, it does absolutely nothing.  Then, I try plugging it into my PC to charge and I get those annoying battery/charger icons that take up the whole screen.  I freaked out when I first saw them, I thought it was totally broken.  They really need to come up with a patch for this so it can work like it used to.  I will try the suggestions here to see if this will help.  I love Microsoft way more than Apple, but GEEZ, I really wish they would stop breaking things with their updates (whether it be with Windows, the Xbox 360, and now my Zune!).

re: The Empty Battery
Hope you guys are right about the back + down.  Mine died today after 4 hours of use.  When I contacted Microsoft, they said that I must not have fully charged the battery (???)  I guess I'm not smart enough to let it sit through a full charge.

re: The Empty Battery
I have the 1st generation, and my battery has been doing the same thing.  I never had any trouble with the battery until the update last week.  I hope Microsoft fixes this issue soon.
