re: XP/Vista tutorials (w/pics) for Music & Album Art Issues
Grrrrrr....I have fixed my album art and library due to the problems with the Zune update.  I was so glad everything was able to be fixed.  It's WAS working great the past few weeks, but I synced my Zune again last night, and the Zune software has placed multiple copies of the different tracks onto my Zune again.   The tracks don't show as being duplicated in the Zune software, but it does show on the Zune itself.  Any suggestions?  I'd really hate to have to wipe my zune clean once again and have to reload everything.  As you know, syncing video takes forever and a day.

Deleteing the .sdf file sill leaves me with mixed up album art and metadata within Zune V2, while everything looks fine in Explorer.  This isn't a full fix (though it may work for some).

Yup...gimme V1 back as well.  This sucks.  I'm not going through each song and renaming the album info and all that.  That would take forever.. Sad [:(]

I guess I'll just wait for an update.  I can't even find this .sdf folder the support mentions.

MS released the Zune Media Collection Reset Tool which does all of this for you.

re: STICKY: Guide for fixing your music library for those having issues.
These Microsoft "Fixes" to their Version 2 Virus seem to be more Public Relations "Fixes" than actual software "Fixes."

I've gone in, labored to fix the dozens of files that Zune ruined, fixed them again and then... Zune ruined them again (and again and again).  Zune has proven pretty persistent at insisting that your album art and tags stay ruined and that your albums stay jumbled.

So let me see if I get this straight...

The new version of the Zune software disbles half the features of the version 1 software... jumbles up your album contents and album art... ruins your tags... and then we are expected to dowload useless "FIx" after "Fix"... and then scramble out there looking for third-party software that will hopefully allow us to spend hours of time fixing the album tag information and art that we had perfect in the first place.  And for this priviledge, we give Microsoft a fistful of our hard earned cash. Do I have this straight?

re: XP/Vista tutorials (w/pics) for Music & Album Art Issues

I didn't have Zune 1.0 software, or a 30 gig Zune.  My first experience with Zune is the 80GIG & Version 2.1.  I also have a Dell DJ 20GB, which is pretty cool (though no video), dropped it a few times and it kept ticking.  Anyway, I digress.

I am having an album art issue.  It appears that some songs/files are getting the correct art, whereas others are not.  I'm having a hard time understanding how ZUNE is applying the album art.  Some files get correct art, some files get no art (can understand this if there is none to be found), while others (Lots of others) are all getting the same album art.  I've installed the software a few times.  Each time I add to the library, the same issue arises.  What puzzles me is that each time, the album art being applied incorrectly is different.  I'm having a hard time figuring this out.

I thought maybe this issue was similar to the one being discussed in this forum, so I followed the directions provided.  I don't have a file called  CurrentDatabase_365Old.wmdb.

Does anyone know what my problem could be.

PBA I have Windows XP Service Pack 2, no subscription to zune store, files are mp3 & WMA and are unprotected.  My music is also located on a hard drive which is connected directly to my router and accessed via my wireless internet.  All other information appears correct, just the album art inconsistencies.

Any ideas.

re: XP/Vista tutorials (w/pics) for Music & Album Art Issues

Use Windows Media Player 11 to rip your CDs to your library.  The Zune software will pick up the changes.

Look at your tags with Mp3Tag ... especially with album art, sometimes there are MULTIPLE album art files in the song file, and the Zune only picks up the first one.  Mp3Tag allows you to see when there's more than one, and let's you delete anything that isn't correct.

WMP 11 allows you to get and set the art (including pasting).

Then, to ensure that the Zune software sees the change, the file you need to rename to *.old, is

C:\Documents and Settings\<your user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Zune\ZuneStore.sdf

After you do this, and restart your Zune software, you'll need to re-do the pairing of your Zune device with the software.  Once it does that, it'll resync things, and voila, things should work for you.  At least that fixed the problems for me.

I still use WMP11 to rip my CDs though.  I only use the Zune software to sync, to be honest.  And I haven't run into nearly as many tagging issues as I've seen others on here do.

I was able to follow the tutorial very well, thank you.

However I did not have a currentdatabase_365.wmdb  file?  is this a problem?

If you were not using the old (Ver 1.4) software I do not think you will have the currentdatabase_365.wmdb file.

If you were using the old version are you sure you have the folder view set to show all hidden and system files?

Sorry you are having issues, it is a great device with bad software (that will be updated) when you get it working.

That Zune Album Fixer thing Microsoft made doesn't do a single thing!  Reseting doesn't help...at all.  It keeps spliting albums that should NOT be split!  WHY DOES IT KEEP DOING THIS!?  I'm serverely disappointed in Microsoft's stupidity when it comes to making a stupid media player.  Why can't we just use something else to put stuff on it, instead of glitchy, annoying, user-murdering Zune software!?  Even WMP11 would be better then this piece of!
