re: [FIX] Guide for fixing your music library for those having issues in XP and Vista

Thanks for the fix!  Did the trick.  Renaming the files and getting rid of all the ZuneAlbumArt.jpg files fixed everything.

I figure almost all of us are in the same boat, big MS fans, own 360's, etc, etc.  Why the Zune player?!  What's wrong with WMP?  At least there, the controls are always available.  I like the Zune, but this is painful.  This software seems like 2 steps back.  Oh well, add native Divx and the abillity to play files from the Zune through a PC (it'd be nice to be able to plug it in my work pc and listen to my music that way) and maybe the Zuneplayer will evolve...

re: [Can't find the recommended files to fix problem

We had the old software installed and did the update.  Since that time we have complelty deleted the Zune software and reinstalled it using the old software CD and doing the update again.

re: XP/Vista tutorials (w/pics) for Music & Album Art Issues

This quick fix DIDN"T WORK for me!!!ARGH!!! My entire library is destroyed! This is my worst nightmare. The update and "NEW" marketplace are the worst thing to ever happen to the Zune. I am frustrated and disappointed beyond words.

re: XP/Vista tutorials (w/pics) for Music & Album Art Issues
So I did exactly this and called Zune 3 times, talked to 3 seperate people and spent WAY too much time on the phone, and they all had me do the same thing. I renamed those 2 files what we have listed here and it still did not work. At least 10 to 15 albums are rearranged. It's better than what it used to be when I first installed the software, but it's still not correct. Is there any advise at all?

re: XP/Vista tutorials (w/pics) for Music & Album Art Issues
I have a problem right now, after following these steps, that does not even make sense in the slightest.

When i look at everything in browse mode, stuff is messed up...mostly album art...but a few songs here or there too. But when i look at it in list mode....its fine. 100% fine and no problems with song locations that i have seen.

So i figure good enough for now i guess...i resync my zune....and guess what....nothing changed on my zune at all despite it being fully synced to the computer...so my device is a clusterfck, the software is buggy as all hell and i am just plain confused.

Also...all the music in my folders is how it should be.

I looked under my Zune folder but I don't have the two files that I'm supposed to change.  All I have is the firmware update folder.  Anyone else have this problem?  And anyone know what I can do now instead to get it to work?

re: Microsoft Response (Moved from Page 2 / Moved from First Post)
I have tried the fix and it does fix some but not all.  In the MS article about the fix steps a little different and the one thing I noticed is my current data base, did not have the wmdp associated with it.  One thing that I did notice when I looked through my zune music files and then the other music files, that the errors associated with problems in the zune, are the same are no associated with those files, so unless there is a was that this fix will change that, I do not see any choice but to manually change the music files.  Any ideas.

re: Microsoft Response (Moved from Page 2 / Moved from First Post)

I followed the steps in this article from MS... http://support.microsoft.com/?id=945319

It has 2 procedures to follow... the second one has a patch for the system registry that checks MetaData for accuracy as it re-creates the library. This second method worked for me, cleaning up about 90% of the mess.

To fix the remaining albums/artists/song/album art problem, I downloaded and have been using to repair the information a program called MediaMonkey. This program allows you to edit the MetaData and the new info is accepted by the Zune software, sometimes updating "on the fly..."

Good luck to the rest of you!

re: XP/Vista tutorials (w/pics) for Music & Album Art Issues

Ok so now that my library (both WMP and Zune) are pretty much fixed....

How do I keep the Zune library from putting new cd's that I rip with WMP from being put in the "unknown Artist" catagory, without screwing up my libraries again?

WMP is ripping everything correctly but when the Zune software is started it sees the new CD it puts it in the Unknown artist catagory.  If you look at the individual Unknown Artist Cds  the individual tracks retain their correct names  it has just lost the CD name and Album Art

re: STICKY: Guide for fixing your music library for those having issues.

XP: Rather than searching through EVERY file, I found it a lot easier to just search the Zune files.

Start menu->My Documents->

At the top of that click "Search"

Then on the side -> All files and folders

All or part of the name file: Zune

A Word or phrase in the file: (You can leave blank)

Look in: Local Disk (C:)

It worked better for me because the files I was missing, i searched them and it found them for me.

Hope this helped, those who need it. =]

re: XP/Vista tutorials (w/pics) for Music & Album Art Issues

Hi,

I'm having a problem finding the Zune folder.

I am logged under my name, and I am also the administrator.

I did everything as you said, including the show hidden folder option, and the zune folder will not show up???

All my music is so messed up right now, I'm so disgusted!..............Thanks Microsoft!
