re: [FIX] Guide for fixing your music library for those having issues in XP and Vista
I have XP and renaming the db worked for 90% of the data in Library but there are still 10% which have the wrong album information even though when I look at the file the tags are correct!!!!

re: [FIX] Guide for fixing your music library for those having issues in XP and Vista

I'm not a computer whiz, but I believe the answer is at:  http://forums.zune.net/2203/ShowPost.aspx - look for the Microsoft Response.  I believe they forgot to mention that the two files you'll edit are hidden.  To un-hide them, follow the steps MS outlined, to the point where the two files should be.  You won't see the two files, because they're hidden.  So, go on top of the window toolbar, click on "Tools", then click on "Folder Options."  Then, click on tab "View" - where you should see "Do Not Show Hidden Files."  Change this to "Show Hidden Files", click on "Apply" then click "OK."  Afterwards, follow steps outlined by MS, to rename files.  This will align/fix the zune problems and it did for me.  Allow library to rebuild, before attaching your Zune.  When finished and you plug your Zune in, it will not be recognized by your computer at first and will think it's linked to another computer.  Just set it up as usual.  And, if you're using wireless, you have to reset that, as well.  It doesn't take long and don't foreget to go back and change View Files back to "Hidden."  Other issues that you may encounter, may/should be addressed by different forums, where you may find your answers.  Everyone is frustrated, but I think it just takes a little time.

Later...

re: [Can't find the recommended files to fix problem

I cannot find one of the files that I need to find to use the fix.  I am running XP.

I am going to list the file paths that are available on my computer. I have show hidden files enabled

1. c/doc & settings/user/doc & settings/microsoft/zune/firmware updates (this is the ONLY) file or folder in this folder

2.C/doc & settings/default user/local settings/app. data/microsoft / NO ZUNE FOLDER

there is a media player folder with a file of- currentdatabase_59r...  is this the same folder as the CurrentDatabase_365.wmdb ???

I did a whole computer search (including hidden files & folders) for  currentdatabase_365.wmbd and could not find it.

I did a whole computer search for zunestore.sdf.  i found this and changed it to zunestore.sdf.backup

My problems are: 1. albums have been broken up and are listed mulitple times with only 1 song on each album.  It looks as if I have thousands of files when there should only be hundreds.

                           2.  Misc. album art.  Crazy pictures that come from who knows where!

Please help.  i was planning to get another for my son this christmas and now I am worried that we will have this problem with the new one also.

Good to hear lowed007. I hope everyone can get their meta data fixed and get their Zunes back out on the street.

thikchik - Your folder structure should look like this (using thikchik as your logon name for example):

C:\Documents And Settings\thikchik\Local Settings\Application Settings\Microsoft\Zune

Both files should be under that folder. If you go into the firmware update folder, you've gone too far.

If you have any other questions, feel free to post again. :)

re: [Can't find the recommended files to fix problem
Question.

When I go to edit the album artist in the "List" mode, how come it reverts back to the wrong artist when i put in the correct artist?
For instance...A Metallica song has the album artist listed as Avenged Sevenfold. When I change it to Metallica, it just goes right back to Avenged Sevenfold. What's weird is, when I change it to anything BUT Metallica, it works just fine...I'm confused.

Did you have the old Zune software installed before you installed the new software, or did you install just the new software without having the old software installed?
