re: Re: Zune Software

I have had the same problem on my xp machine.  My vista is running normal.  But since the update on my xp laptop, I can't use anything while zune software is open.  I am not even playing music or connected, just having it open is using all of my resources.

Awesome that we released an update, but it's taking me forever and a day to install.

I'm just sitting here at 99% and it won't budge, anyone else have this problem?

Ok damnit, I need some help. I did a reset on my zune, and I've been trying to update the firmware and I keep getting [Error code: C00D11CD]. Can I not restore/update it because it's fully been deleted from the zune because of the reset or what? How can I fix this!!?!!? I don't know *** about MP3 players... Any info - Thanks!!

Why were you trying to update the firmware?  The software update that everyone here is talking about was for the software that runs on your computer and sync's your media to your Zune device.  The last firmware update was weeks ago and fixed the so-called battery bug and a few smaller things. Is your Zune device still functional?  Which Zune do you have? If it is a Zune 4 or 8 or a Zune 80, you should be ok.  Uninstall the Zune software, download this new 2.3 version and install that.  Try to sync your Zune.

If you have a Zune 30 and it's firmware was never updated, then you might try uninstalling the Zune software, get the CD that came with the Zune and install that.  Let it detect the new software and update.  At some point in that process, you will be prompted to update your Zune.  Go ahead and let it do that.  If I remember correctly, it took about twenty minutes.

However, this update was just for your computer's Zune software and not for the Zune itself.

Hope that helps.

re: Re: Zune Software
We know how to get around it too, we're not idiots, and for the most part we're not whiners, either...  It's that that small few of us either don't have and/or aren't willing/able to buy what we need in order to do so.  Everyone has told be to buy an extra drive, and, I'm not saying that it isn't a reasonable solution, because in all fairness it is.  I AM saying that I can't afford the drive right now.  And you're also right about it being an opinion...  Even if I do buy another drive, it will still (and always will be) a problem for me, because, what's the purpose?  Those files will more than likely sit there untouched.  There is no good reason, in my mind, for me to buy another drive except for making the Zune work right.  People always tell me what a "good idea" it is to back up your files...  Hard drives, external ones, anyway, really aren't any better off than the Zune is...  They can go out, get stolen, get dropped, all of that.  I have the CD's, DVDs, unconverted video files, you name it...  there's no need for the drive.  And if anything obligitory happens to either my drive or my Zune, then everything is gone.  So, it's really just unefficient...  If I have to entrust everything to 2 different locations and they both have to work with each other, why can't I just entrust it to 1 with the exact same risk and not have to spend more?  Unefficient.  For people that actually use all of the files on their Zune on their computer as well and/or already have the space to store them, it's obviously not a problem and they haven't anything to gripe about, so, yeah, again, you're right, but only by default.  Because it only makes sense that the people that have the resources won't be affected.  Well, some people ARE affected, and some people DO care.  It's not all about you people that don't have a problem with it....

You don't have to message me back saying that Zune more than likely won't do anything about it no matter how much I hate it, I'm fully aware of that.  But just because I'm in the minority doesn't mean I can't fight for what I would like to see.

Yes I had the same problem. It does eventually finish. I went to bed and let it finish, so I don't know when it actually did finish.

has anybody have problems with the new update,  in the last update,  my videos would not sync,  and the zune memory kept filling up,  to the point where I had no memory left,  have alot of video files,  had to delete everything,  and load it all back in,  took 3 days,  now it is something similar,  but with my music files,  will rip the music,  but comes up unknow album,  unkown song, on my zune/music file,  but nothing actually on my zune,  will not sync,  but my memory is filing up,  tried taking songs out of zune,  and putting it back in,  but comes up unknown album,  so taking it out and putting it back in,  like I did with my earlier video problems does not work,  do not want to delete all my music,  and try ripping it all again,  because it appears it won't sync it....still do not know why microsoft does not have the ability to let me back out of the latest update...if that is really the source of the problem.

Exactly, Microsoft is nuts, they have the worst software engineers ever.  It's problem, after problem, I tried to download the new software, as prompted by the software.  Got a failed installation call, did troubleshoot, downloaded the large packaged from the microsoft website, ran the set up through the package and received another installation failed statement.  And now my Zune software won't even work, it was the great 2.1.  Problem after problem, metadata glitch (which I fixed), now I have a packages missing due to error call 0x80070643 and now my software will not even work, my computer is now going nuts, every five seconds giving a Zune Bus Enumerator error message and now I can't even use my Zune Device.  My computer is not outdated, received last September, so I know there is not problem.  I would just like to thank the Zune team and all of their support teams (that speak horrible english), I tell Zune support  my SOFTWARE DOES NOT WORK and they tell me to send my Zune DEVICE in for repair (WTF, two different things genius), and last I like to thank Bill Gates who we all know does not care whatsoever about how horrible his company has and continues to become.  MR. Billion dollar man who does not give a **** (use your imagination)!!!!!!!!!!

ok I been having trouble with mine still, I noticed it was switching titles of albums and artists names around then duplicates of things, and I just cleared out my whole collection and it says there is still stuff on there which it won't let me delete. This thing is driving me nuts right now. *pout*

re: Re: Zune Software
It seems for me since this update that it mostly freezes up and spikes the CPU when dealing with files on the device through the software. it's a right pain in the ass. two minutes before anything happens. eats up a hell of a lot of time trying to get anything synced.

I've also been spending an awful lot of time lately trying to get my files straight through MP3tag. (think time like, it could be my second job...) Zune software will still screw up artwork on occasion, but deleting it from the library and dropping it back in usually works. However, it doesn't do so well when I've got something like a compilation from a particular artist on one or more discs (oft times made myself from vinyl singles) and I want to have the artwork for each song to match with the original source. Then deleting and dropping doesn't work.

Nuking the zunestore.sdf usually will set things right, but you know, it's getting really really old having to reset my collection at least once a week and go back and resubcribe all my Podcasts and reset all of them with what I've watched already and reassociating my Device with the software and what's on the device already. And all of this on top of the initial nearly two hours it takes for Zune to load up the 300+G of my collection. (and which I'm still adding to almost daily as I continuously rip stuff I've amassed over the years)

Really old.

(And you know, Microsoft, nothing builds fanatical brand loyalty and interweb devotion (and occasionally some really great software) like an SDK.
Please consider it.)

I curse the self copulation of your lousy record collection

Then I guess MS needs a new advertizing tag: "You make it you, the way we want you to."

My thing is, does using guest sync block any features? What benefits do you lose with guest sync? Has anyone tried zAlternator with WMP11 on Win XP?

I hope the Zune team takes into count the "few" because it only takes a "few" to make or break something in the technical world. Remember: "The few, the proud, the Marines" and they are still the second baddest military group on earth. And incase anyone is confused by "second", for those who don't know, the army of the living God is the baddest.

"Faith is the doorway to God, obedience is the key that unlocks it."

I haven't used it, but it would appear you don't lose anything.  Crobtown posted this in tips & tricks:
try { var flashObjId = "flashUserCard106970"; var zuneCardFlash = new Flash("http://zcards.zune.net/xweb/lx/swf/zunecardmedium.swf?ver=1207", flashObjId, "250", "135", "9"); zuneCardFlash.addParam("wmode","opaque"); zuneCardFlash.addParam("salign","tl"); zuneCardFlash.addVariable("baseURL", "http%3a%2f%2fzcards.zune.net%2fzcard%2fusercardservice.ashx%3fsrc%3dmedium%26zunetag%3dCrobTown%26tkt%3do8nD3JH08hxAeU2%252fn7xZHXKbxk0VJvvK1EXDXSPhP8g6WgMcuIx9ArvQFlD2eFRSGscbpggeaiOaSD3niTobtg%253d%253d"); zuneCardFlash.addParam("allowScriptAccess","always"); zuneCardFlash.write("ZuneCard106970"); setFlashObj(flashObjId); }catch(e){}
It's easy!  You are allowed to sync your Zune with up to 3 computers, so just install the Zune software on the new computer and plug in the Zune.  It will ask you if you want to link the Zune to the new computer, or just connect as a guest.  Since you can only have it linked to one computer at a time (which means it can automatically add music to the Zune), I'd recommend connecting as a guest, so you can keep the link between the Zune and your old computer, unless you want to change that.  Then just click on "device" at the top (or on the picture of your Zune in the lower left), click on the "music" tab at the top, and anything you drag-and-drop onto the brown computer icon in the lower-left will be copied to your new computer.  Simple as that!
