Bump - still wanting 5 stars/diamonds/moons/clovers/whatever.

The world is full of kings and queens, who blind your eyes and steal your dreams - it's Heaven and Hell.

re: Can we have the 5 star rating system back, please?
I for one love the heart rating system now I have got used to it. It just makes so much sense. I know have it set up with three playlists - Hate, Like, Love. Tracks I hate have the broken heart, tracks I like have no heart and tracks I love have the filled in heart. Yes, I will have tracks in my library which I don't really like because I have full albums in my library. Also, some of my songs under hate I like a little bit, just not that much :) Why do you need 5 different rating settings? This is the perfect idea.

re: Can we have the 5 star rating system back, please?

Why do we need to continue to ask for this?

I'm a software developer and I cannot imagine why they won't give this to us. If they did it right, then when they converted everyone's old ratings, they still used the 5 star model but translated it into hearts. If this is the case, then it's an incredibly easy and seem-less thing to do. If they didn't, then they can easily convert to this.

A 5 star rating, on the backend, would support both the hearts and the 5 star ratings. Think about it, broken heart = 1 star, no heart = 3 stars, heart = 5 stars. Then you could have a simple preference to toggle back and forth.

Seriously, this makes no sense why Zune does not support a 5 star rating system. Vista, Media Player, and many other pieces of Microsoft software support and use the 5 star rating system. Why the Zune team needs to be inconsistent, I have no idea but it ruins the user experience and makes things NOT seem-less.

This thread perfectly proves my point, too. My idea gives everyone what they want. Currently, only a portion of people are getting what they want.

To be perfectly honest, why would you keep songs you "don't like", anyway? I can imagine rating them 1 star if you think they're okay or not very good but why would anyone actually keep songs they don't like? That doesn't make any sense to me.

Because nowadays people have terabytes of storage and 120GB players. There's no reason not to keep them for completion's sake.

re: Can we have the 5 star rating system back, please?

Also as we've said previously in this very long thread that apparently was ignored in the 4.0 release..... you would mark the items as Don't Like while you're away from your computer so that they won't sync again the next time your sync your Zune.

The hearts are OK, but I'd still like the 5 stars and to have it display on the main screen of the album.  What your post says is that you're using the 3-hearts as a partial 5-star rating system.  All we're asking for is a choice so that we can use both.  The Zune XNA framework actually allows for 1/2 stars (it goes from - to 10), so there's no reason that they couldn't do it, they apparently don't want to.

re: Can we have the 5 star rating system back, please?

Having just picked up my first Zune I have to say I'm really impressed with a lot of the functionality included in the device & in the software, but I'm stunned that I'm limited to the 'heart' rating system.

I've read many posts that imply it doesn't make sense to try and differentiate 5 different levels of liking a song but with a large volume of songs I've found it invaluable to organizing my music over the years.  I bought my first ipod in 2002 and have since rated over 10,000 songs using what I've always considered a 'simple' process...

My all-time favorite song get 5 stars (any song that I NEVER skip over or that I think is current and HOT right now - currently ~200 songs).  Any song that I love gets 4 stars (currently over 1,000) songs that are 'popular' or that I may want to have available for specific occasions get 3 stars (almost 4,000 songs - for occassions like parties, cruising with the top down, etc) 2 stars are songs I don't care for (but want to have as part of complete albums) and 1 stars for songs I never want to hear again (or duplicates)

I'm sure there are many other ways to use the 5 stars but most importantly it provide options and seems like a simple request.  I really want to use my Zune so I'm strongly requesting an update on whether this will ever happen...

Has anybody from Zune commented on whether this is being discussed any more?

Having the five star rating system wouldn't hurt zune at all. It'll just make it better. There are 273 posts and most of them are for the five star raing system

On wmp 11 I use the rating system alot to rate my 1800+ songs

Same here and add another vote for the 5 star system.  Actually the rating scale are still there in the tag, Zune just dont display it.  I like the Zune software, but I still use WMP to rate my songs.
