re: Turn off auto sync on 2.2 firmware?
Ugh, thanks for trying Andy.  I think for now I'm just going to go back to 1.4 because I like to have full control over the device and it just doesn't work with my style of organization.

What audience is this?  Please find me some examples of anyone who requested it this way.  I don't think anyone wants to fill up there hard drive with files.  I like the new software but this feature of  deleting it from the hard drive deletes it from my Zune is ridiculous.  I have a laptop so I need every bit of my hard drive.

re: Turn off auto sync on 2.2 firmware?
I'm prefectly fine with the direction MS decided to take with the Zune. I use it exactly as it was meant to; a portable method to transport my music. I listen to the same material at home when I'm working on my PC, so it makes no sense for me to deleted the files from my PC even if they are already on my Zune. I understand where some people would like that functionality (ie. using the Zune as an external HDD), but I've had no need for it and the Zune is a pretty good music player. I guess I'm the target audience... =/

That's (in my opinion), completely ridiculous.  It doesn't match what most people are expecting.  Many of us cut our teeth on other devices and manually sync'd to our creative or iRivers using Media Player.  Once sync'd, you could delete items from your PC without fear that they would "automagically" be removed from the device.

As others have stated here - I want the option to NOT remove items from my Zune if they are deleted from the PC, or removed from the library.  It's more in line with what I expect based on previous experience.

I represent the person who has one laptop that three or four people are sharing.  We don't have room on the disk for everybody's favorite music to always remain on the disk for each of their Zunes.

re: Turn off auto sync on 2.2 firmware?

Andy,

Finally I got it to not delete everything in my Zune by doing what you suggested. All you have to do is have the album somewhere else in your computer then drag and drop it into the collection library. Then sync it to your Zune and you could erase it from your collection. Wish I would have got a warning before it erased 180 albums. What about when you rip a cd though. Do  you have to rip it with a third party software to place it in another section so its not monitered? You guys need to fix this. Saying that you only targeted some Zuners and not all of us is ridiculous. Thats like buying a Porche. Porche says hey we got some free upgrades for you for free. Drop off your Porche. So you do, and when you get it back it has a civic engine in it. You tell Porche, why the hell do you down grade my engine and they tell you its a upgrade....sure you cant go fast but you save so much money on gas. Idont want to save on gas....just give me back my original engine and they say...cant do that. Thats basically what you guys did.

re: Turn off auto sync on 2.2 firmware?

Andy,

What are the implications of moving the content downloaded from Zune Marketplace (acquired through my Zune Pass).  Right now I see them in a "subscription" folder with subfolders for each artist.  If I move that artist's folder outside of subscription or if I delete that folder from my computer, will I booger up my copy on the Zune?

Damn, It stopped doing it. It went back to deleting out albums that are not in my collection. It kept the first set of albums in the Zune that I deleted out the Collection but its almost like in adapted to being fooled once and now wont be fooled again. I got 6 albums that are not in my collection that's in my Zune that it wont delete. Now it went back to deleting everything not in the Collection. I know its possible to keep data not in the collection but how? I have some it saved but wont do it anymore

re: Turn off auto sync on 2.2 firmware?

If you move content that is currently in a monitored folder to a non-monitored folder, the likelihood is that we will see that as a deletion and remove the file from the device.  However, once you've moved it, you can do as described here, and drag and drop it from its new location onto the Collection window, which will add it back to the collection (and resync it if appropriate) with no particular problem.  Furthermore, changes to the content in the non-monitored folder will be, well, not monitored. :-)

re: Turn off auto sync on 2.2 firmware?

Please See My Posting on Using 2 Zunes on one Computer. Search for postings by Fwammy

This is not acceptable behavior. I keep one zune with Music files (over 75GB) and another with Audio Books.

Since the Zune Software is the only way provided for me to add files to my devices, I require a total manual sync option.

Either that or give me a shell extension so I can see the device as a HD in explorer and drag and drop without the Zune software.

Please!?

re: Turn off auto sync on 2.2 firmware?

I'm sorry to say that I am not part of that audience.  I would like the option to copy files to the Zune and not have it sync.  I also would like to be able to remove files from the Zune without connecting it to the pc.  This thing is not my pda.  I don't need it to sync.

I get your point on the sync behavior, but for now, we've optimized the behavior for the audience that wants to keep the library and the content on the device actually in sync, as opposed to treating the device as a completely independent storage medium.

I hear what you are saying about the behavior for the audience that wants to keep the library synced. I want to keep the movies I have too, however the files on my computer are not in the format (resolution, divx, ect.) so I use a program to convert to the proper format and then sync. After it is synced I don't need or want both version on my hard drive and the format that the zune uses (resolution in particular) is unacceptable for viewing on my 17" laptop monitor. Hence why I/we want to delete said content. I'll keep it on my Zune probably forever. I wish there was a way around this (future update please?????).

Wow.  Way to appeal to one audience and completely ignore the other.  My wife and I keep our music together on our home computer.  She listens to pure sh*t, but I'm fine with having her music in our shared library of albums.  Guess what?  I don't want the new Justin Timberlake album on my personal zune.  Oh look, it's auto-synching anyway because you seem to think that's what I want without even giving me an options.  Shame on you and your team.  Fix this now.
