This is Beta software

I would disagree with this statement. The software quality (aside from the install issues which some people have experience, which are to be expected on an open operating system such as Windows XP/Vista -- trust me, you can't test the infinite number of hardware/software scenarios that are out there) is definitely release quality.

You may not like the FEATURE SET that is included, and I know to a user this is picking nitts, but that does not make the software a piece of beta software.

I agree that it isn't Beta software it's more like Alpha software.  It is not feature complete as is stated in this post by a user from the Zune Product Team:

So tell us...how do you use auto/smart playlists. Tell us what it didn't do that you want it to do. Tell us what it did that you didn't want. This way when we do it, we'll do it knowing exactly how you use it and can inform our designs with that.

I know I just posted this above, but I feel it is relevant to your statement and my opinion.  This software is obviously not "Feature Complete" as they want our opinion as to how the features should be implemented before they can add them.  This user also stated that he also misses that particular feature.

I agree that this is beyong beta software, apart from maybe some installation issues.

I've updated the software on 3 machines, and it works perfectly fine.

However, what I totally disagree with is the way they have handled the software update.

First of all, when you started Zune, you get the message there's a new software version available.

It would be great though, that at the same time, they would tell us what has changed, and most certainly, all the features that we won't have anymore.

They would have a field day with how badly Microsoft has handled the current Zune 'issues'.

Oh of course.

I've said it before, Steve Jobs is probbaly laughing himself into oblivion as he reads this forum.

"No metadata editing?!" *Lmao!* *High fives another exec*

And they mentioned before "You can chaneg your metadata, you just have to go to list view!!!11one!1!"

Well lemme tell you something. If an advanced user such as myself and many others are having difficulty with this. Zune Team, you have a problem, as I cna only imagine the horror not to so tehc savvy users are going through.

You know I had to edit my regstry myself to get the software to work properly? The average computer user doesn't even know what that is!

It's ridiculous the situation, but im tyring to keep myself from goin off on them, because i can get ignorant, pshh

Iam so pissed off I have over 500 MP4s and 150 plus WMVs so far here are my Video Problems...

1 - A common sense thing that was on the last sofware was once I stop it from converting a file (American Gangster)  and begin another (South Park) it starts converting and Syncing the old file (American Gangster) with no option to stop it or take it off the Sync list....

2 -It is renaming my Video files as I stated B4 I have over 500 MP4s and another 150 Plus WMVs its hard to navigate through AVP Trailer when its named 5 times ....

3 -If Iam a loyal costumer of Zune and Microsoft stated "We arent going to force you to buy a new MP3 player for Upgrades" Why am I now stuck with the choice of either staying with my old 30GB and dealing with Hours a week of converting. Buying a new Zune so I can simply Sync my MP4s or Buy an Ipod touch screen for $50 more then the 80Gb and have a Browser and no Conversion time...

Common sense has kicked in Iam jumping ship to one that is going to float a year from now...

I fully support this statement and thanks lilsalmon for the bullet list, which I couldn't keep cool enough to write!

I think the Zune device is a beauty, and I was happy with the v1 software despite being "trapped" into using it and not being able to play videos dowloaded from the BBC iPlayer (which are free and in windows format).  I've stayed away from iPod because of this, and now you've given me reasons to stay away from Zune.

Podcast catching looks like a good added feature in v2.  But that is all.

I feel v2 is (bugs aside) a retrograde step in terms of features - in a BIG way.  I don't consider myself an advanced user either.  Just competent.

I've invested a lot of time on my music library and I feel MS have thrown it away.

The fact of the matter is that if things don't improve radically, I will ditch my Zune and look again at a manufacturer that is focused on producing a good tool for managing and listening to music, rather than one that wants to make its money by selling music.

In the meantime, there is no way I will be syncing my device with my disrupted and unmanageable library, I'm going to dig out the original software CD, and give it until the Christmas sales.  If by then there is no sign of improvement to the software, I'll go out and get an alternative in the sales.

Perhaps MS could point us to somewhere we can download the last version of v1 so we can roll back this upgrade - that would keep me happy for a year...

I was hoping for a response from someone.. anyone... from the Zune team. But alas I think we are in the dark... apparently they are going to put their head in the sand and ignore all of us.

Like I said before, just a statement and timetable would suffice to defend:

a - How you could possibly put out such a bug ridden piece of software.
b - When we could expect a fix.
c - When we could expect our features back.

This is unacceptible. Just read the forums you put here for us to use. Did you guys launch and then walk away from this? It is completely obvious that there is a major problem and not one word from the team. This is appalling after a year of relentless support for you guys.

I only wish I was wrong about the situation but it maybe time to put these on eBay, cut the losses and head to a better supported product.

I don't even use regular playlists... who does?  Too much music to be manually making lists.

Don't get me wrong, I want autoplaylists too, but your statement is just ignorant. Even with over 10,000 songs, and I still take the time to make custom playlists just the same as I would have burned a Custom Mix CD a few years ago. You can make a case that autoplaylists are needed, certainly, but don't blame your own laziness on Microsoft... they have enough of their own feature issues to cope with.

I've been a Zune user since the beginning, and I don't get why so many 'followers' are getting impatient with MS for releasing what seems like Alpha software.  Yes, the fact that we can't edit metatags was a heavy blow, but I have an organised library as it is. By renaming the 2 database files talked about in another thread, I don't need to edit them right now. I personally prefer the like/dislike rating system to the 'star' system. It just seems a lot easier to me to say "I like this," rather than "I like this, a little bit more than this track, but a little bit less than this one".

It's been 1 day since release. I'm sure MS are working on the problems. Just wait for an update and enjoy the positive updates. It's all too easy to be negative about a new product, after hearing so much hype about it.

I agree.... Iv'e stood up for this product from the day I purchaced it. Now I've got this "upgrade" installed and zune software won't even start up! I get a friggin error message about not being able to connect to zune marketplace. I've gone from limited functions, to complete uselessness. THIS SUCKS!!!  Angry [:@]

Today is a total slap in the face of loyal Zune supporters. Being in the tech and application industry myself I can easily say I feel like this software is beta at best. I feel like we are all beta testers for a bad experiment by the Zune Team. I have been the Zune's most loyal supporter for a year and what have you given us? The removal of many key features that made this product great:

I totally agree with this post I bought on day one myself I truely feel betrayed.  Rule one of software upgrade is dont release when you are missing popular features from the previous release.  it truely seems to me that the Zune team took the other route and joined apple in the "They have to be happy with what they give them even if they never wanted it" camp.  They strip out the most usefull features sprinkle lots and lots of sweet-and-low on the new software and not realizing there would be no sugar high from sweet-and-low they didnt expect this backlash.. Personally if I dont see a post today I'm going to go buy and I-pod they followed microsofts lead with the Zune 1 software and took all the best features into there software..

We have the new features that where lacking from zune one with none of the features that where in zune one THIS ISNT acceptible.

I can't believe we haven't heard peep from the Zune camp. Its like they seriously are ignoring this.
