Zune 30 freezing [Update with resolution]

OK well I tryed the Reformat option but that froze as well so I guess that was my last try.  Just have to sit and wait for MS to let us know

I got the chance to drain the battery and put it to charge as soon as i saw the zune logo i press the up and left and ok key its clearing the contents but i think it go stuck  in it...

  I am so glad I looked here before I went and purchased another Zune.  Thanks for the heads up about the freeze.  Happy New Years to all, and again thanks.

Has anyone heard of the older zune's freezing?  I have an older 80g and it froze this morning too.  Tried everything with no luck.  Help.

I talked to my dad about it (he's an electronics engineer) and he said that if your battery dies, than it's best to let it stay dead, because we don't know what it's trying to do, and it might fry the hard drive. It's probably best if we just wait it out and let Microsoft work out all the glitches. Patience is a virtue, to all those people out there who up and decided to try and fix the problem themselves.

It's absolutely impossible to test for every possible bug.  There's just things that Dev's and testers can't test for, if it can't be imagined, it can't be tested for.  Unfortunately, it happens.  I've been following all the forums today about this mess up, yes, i'm upset by it too, but I'm not going to let it ruin my NYE, I still have CD's, MP3's on my laptop, and God forbid, a radio.  I realized today how connected to devices people are and how disconnected from anything but that that they are as well.  Again, I state, yes it sucks majorly, and I hope that MS will take care of us in Zuneland.  At least all of our music/videos/pics/etc. are still stored on our pc's/laptops. 

And for those of you who may be dj-ing this evening, or would have if you had your zunes, a latop with an external hard drive, cd's and cdj's, or even vinyl and turntables are a much better way to dj,  *sorry, my little stab from a vinyl dj*

Just hang in there, now that this is making nationaly news, MS is gonna be held to the fire a little bit more and will have to take care of us, that or face a PR nightmare......

Matt, if you still check this thread, I have to know. I have the Limited Edition Halo 30g Zune, and if we have to send them in, I know Microsoft is bad at sending a brand new sytem, instead of actually repairing the system. Will I be able to keep my Halo Zune, or will they send me a generic 30g Zune?

i been reading all day about this and as soon as i did i tryed my zune luck and i would get stuck when the zune logo and ith white bar at the bottom got to the right but now my zune is now getting stuck as soon at the zune logn comes up with no white bar at the bottom. is this happening to any one else

When I went to the support site to report the freezing (just to be on record so to speak) it told me we have no device registered. We registered in 2007 so that is ridiculous. Is this part of the freeze?

My 1st generation 30GB Zune is frozen like everyone else's. It's stuck on the startup screen and the hard drive is freaking out, its actually emanating heat.  I just want to know if Microsoft is prepared to repair or replace my MP3 player even though I am outside of the one year warrenty. What happens if this causes a malfunction down the road? Am I going to be screwed? To spend the rest of my days cursing Microsoft's name? I want some answers and an extended warrenty, otherwise I am going to just throw my zune in the garbage, cancel my zune pass, trade in my x-box360 for a Wii,  switch to an apple computer and spend the rest of my days convincing my friends and family never to ever buy anything with a Microsoft logo on it.

much respect to matt akers (and everyone else who isn't losing their little heads over this issue) - your threads have been very helpful!  i look forward to the resolution after the holidays - as for now my zune's just gonna sit in my desk for a couple of days.  anyway, geez, the devs need a new years celebration, too!
