Hey folks.  Brian [MossyRoc] from the Zune team here. I just posted inside one the threads but wanted to get one up here too.  We realize there is an issue with the Zune 30 and a team is working hard right now to isolate the issue and develop a plan.  I will be providing you with updates as I can.  I [we] appreciate your patience, I realize this is an inconvenience and we are working hard to remedy the issue.

Brian.

thanks for the update ..... good thing i had an 8G zune to steal from the kid for the bike ride to work today :)

I got mine for christmas in 07, too. I turned mine off shortly before midnight, but when I turned it on, i didn't notice any whirring or anything, it just took a few tries to get it unlocked and as soon as I hit play, it  turned black and went to the reset screen like everyone else's...It just now died from low battery...It did get rather hot, though... Taking apart the Zune doesn't seem like such a good idea and most people are saying it didn't work, just so you know....Draining the battery doesn't work either, I've read...mine just died but I don't think I'm gonna recharge it, at least not for the time being...

Taking apart the Zune probably voids the warranty (you'd have to read the warranty statement), assuming yours is still covered.

If you got your Zune30 for Christmas last year, odds are you're like me and your warranty expired 2 weeks ago. Super Angry [8o|]

re: Zune 30 Issue

Mossy,

At this point should we be calling the 877-GET-ZUNE to register a trouble ticket?  Or should we wait for more information?

I keep trying to call, and when I say "AGENT" it tries to transfer me, but then tells me the call could not be completed.   I am sure they are overwhelmed, but at this point I'm not sure what good it will do to talk to them other than registering a ticket

Thanks!

Most of the 30GB units are not under warranty any longer. I am aware it may void the warranty. I also said I am not doing it, but waiting for MS to come up with a solution today. For the adventurous and technically savvy though, it might be an option. I don't know if it works or not. I was just cross-posting.

Something serious is going on for sure with Zune 30's, and Microsoft has acknowledged it:

re: Zune 30 Issue
I'm actually kind of happy in a way that this is Microsoft's fault. I thought all night last night that my Zune just died of "natural" causes. I decided to do some online checking for the hell of it and I saw the massive flood of angry Zune 30 owners. Does this suck? You bet. I love this little guy. But at least I know it wasn't something I had done or that it just wore out. Now we just have to set back and relax till the paniced MS techs figure out how to fix this mess. ^_^

re: Zune 30 Issue
It's obviously a problem with the player, I don't think anyone doubts that. The question is what will Microsoft do about it. With their engineering resources, we shouldn't have to wait long for a solution (a small company could take a long time to fix something like this).

re: Zune 30 Issue
But if it's firmware, how can they bypass the start up to update the firmware?  I suspect the only "solution" will be mailing Zunes back to MS.  And you better believe they are going to have to fix all Zune30s for free, warranty or not.
