There is a way to change it, if you have Xbox Live. (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/gamerprofile/change.htm)

Otherwise...we don't have a way to do that today. But we're working on a few things that will help this situation in the future; a lot of people have requested the ability to change the Zunetag.

Obviously you know more then I do but couldn't you just sign up with a different email address?  Also I see you on a lot of different threads its encouraging that to so that the Zune team is reading and interacting.

Oh yeah, you can totally do that - but your plays, favorites, friends, etc won't migrate with you. So it's kind of annoying if you've already built up a reputation here.

re: How Do I Change My "Username" On My Zune Profile?
What about DRM? Isn't your license tied to your account which is based upon your Windows Live Account (zunetag)? So if you use a new e-mail you are essentially opening a new account which of course means nothing migrates as jetherealz has said, including points. Now about the DRM, is it associated to the Zunetag or is it associated to the computer? I have multiple Zunes but they are all associated with the same computer. I have read that many users use multiple computers so that would mean the DRM would have to be associated with the Zunetag or it would not allow your music to play on a different pc. I understand the licences are a separate file on the pc that the Zune software retrieves but it should only retrieve the licences associated to that Zune that is plugged in (Zunetag). If this were not so, anyone could plug in their Zune as a guest, let their software download the DRM licences and then have access to their music. So I would assume if you use a different e-mail and open a new account, that you would have licensing issues for music purchased on your old account or, of course, your Zunepass witch can not migrate either. The way I understand it, your Zune could only play one accounts music at a time. Jetherealz, could you verify how this functions for me or give me a link which clearly shows how DRM functions? Even The MS knowledbase articles that I can find do not explain this clearly. I could open a new account and purchase music to experiment but I really would rather not. Thanks.

re: How Do I Change My "Username" On My Zune Profile?

Okay, so not my area of expertise, but here's what's worked in my experience. The DRM content has a license that says how many computers and how many Zunes it can be played on. So, like, at my house, all my DRM music is on one PC, but I usually play it through my Media Center PC in another room. The first time I did that, I needed to connect and acquire a license for the second PC; that was done through Zunetag. But once the license is acquired, it lives on the PC.

You can connect as a guest and put Zune Pass music on the guest Zune; I do that all the time for my kid. His Zune's home is his PC at home; I bring his Zune to work, connect as a guest, load it up with Zune Pass content, and then bring it home. The Zune Pass music is associated with a different Zune tag (my special work one).

Does that answer enough of your question?

Your answer helps, yes. I still have a lot of questions but I will not bother you with these on this forum. I would like to say, your presence on the forums is awesome and greatly appreciated. It is nice to actually get to interact with a member of the team and to know you care and want our participation. Thanks again.

You're exactly right.  I tried changing my Zune Tag today by using a different email address.  But once I found out that the play count, friends, etc didn't transfer over, I switched back to my original Tag.

re: How Do I Change My "Username" On My Zune Profile?

Your license is tied to your Windows Live account, so changing that, you lose the music. It won't connect to verify without it. Otherwise people could share music with other Zune friends.

And yes we NEED the tag option, at least once. I want to change mine too, I am really annoyed with Microsoft over this. Even if they charged a small fee (around 100-300 points) for each change, I would do that. Please get this option enabled asap, people are really annoyed over this across several Zune communities.

Count me in.  How is changing a name (ZuneTag) so hard to allow?  The Live ID is the unique identifier.  I can change my name in Twitter, but Microsoft can't figure that out?  C'mon guys, I'm the only person I know in St. Louis that owns a Zune.  Gimme reasons to spread the word, not complain.  I'm the lone brown soul in a sea of white and silver.

re: How Do I Change My "Username" On My Zune Profile?

So, it's not that it's all that hard...but it's this: first, your Zune tag is your unique identifier in the community. If you could change it at will, you could build a reputation up and still behave like a troll, because no one would know it was you. So changing a Zune tag needs to be a serious thing - not something that should be done at random will.

Xbox Live allows changes for 800 points (about $10). That is enough of a deterrent to prevent people from doing it for malicious reasons. We would like to implement a similar feature - but when we prioritize all the features users request and we want to build, that one hasn't reached the top of the list yet.

Just out of curiosity, what 2.5 feature would you have given up to get Zunetag changes?

re: How Do I Change My "Username" On My Zune Profile?

$10 seems a bit steep, but since I (and others, from what I read) are really only wanting to align their Zunetag with the same moniker we use in other internet locales now that the Social has kicked it up a notch, I'd probably consider doing it.  I get your reasoning for not making it more flexible, but maybe instead of burning 800 points, maybe make it an option once you buy 1000 points.  You still get your money and troll-defense, and the user doesn't feel like they just handed Microsoft $10 just to change a handle.

As far as the feature I'd give up in 2.5, I'd say either gapless playback (because it doesn't actually seem to be gapless on either my 80gb or the software.  I've searched support and forums to see if I missed a setting somewhere, but to no avail), or presence in Live Messenger.  Yahoo's been doing that for years, and it doesn't do much for me.

Thanks for addressing it, though!

re: How Do I Change My "Username" On My Zune Profile?

You're only going to see gapless playback on albums that are mixed together; it's not a setting you turn on or off. I have a lot of dance albums where all the tracks are mixed together, and they play perfectly now. But like if you shuffle a playlist, you won't experience gapless playback, I don't think.
