OK - What is the REAL reason for the delay?

A free goody, in my opinion, should be necessary. Especially after all the calls everyone keeps making. It seems to me that a lot of people are not too happy with zune. This worries me because as each day goes by, I feel more and more like buying it was a bad idea. What I hope happens is that our new ones don't have the same problem that I read on another forum where the zunes are restarting while playing music. I'll be pretty upset if I had to wait for a faulty product. So hopefully our wait will be worth it.

ps: I still haven't gotten an e-mail.

I'm wondering if that's what actually is the case - they're on production hold to remedy (or make sure there isn't) a major defect. If so, I'm not unhappy that they're delaying it, only that they're being so coy about the whole thing. It is clear by now that "unprecidented demand" is not the reason for the delay, otherwise at least some of them would have trickled out...

re: Anyone have their Red 80 yet?
I agree with you Woody.  Something must be wrong.  Unless it's the machine that does the engraving!!  I agree that MS should acknowledge that this is not the best transaction experience.  Although I've called, I have yet to get anything from them regarding my late arrival.  NOT EVEN AN "effing" EMAIL!!  Which means they really aren't concerned about customer satisfaction.

And I disagree that ranting about it doesn't accomplish anything, it lets corporations know that this is unacceptable business practice and that if somebody screwed up, there should be some sort of compensation.  They need to know that this leaves a bitter taste in my mouth that will probably be recalled when I decide what music player to buy the next time around.  I'm even considering buying an iPod Touch as I write.

I don't want to sound snarky or anything here, but excuse me while I go giggle a bit.

I'm not saying it right or anything, but let's face it. YOU are one person. Those on this topic... What, there's like ten or so?

Not a huge chunk of the demographic.

Again, I'm not saying that because there are so few people complaining, that it makes it alright, but think about it on the grander scale.

Wow...  thanks for putting things into perspective.  I guess you won't be voting on anything anytime soon.

Big things start with a single voice and forums are a great place to start.  I am surprised that there aren't more people voicing their disappointment.  Maybe they are like you and don't think it matters.  But believe me, I don't think any of my coworkers/friends/family will be ordering a Zune anytime soon.

Well, for those of us who are waiting, please let us know if you get your order.

I respect your opinion, Uhlisuh, but Microsoft just opened this Zune Originals forum, and YoYoMama introduced it by by asking for feedback on the Zune Originals experience.  He may ignore what we are saying, but he asked, so we're giving our opinions.  Personally, knowing that there is someone here from the Zune team reading this forum, I feel like posting here is more effective than calling customer service and complaining (or keeping my mouth shut).  If the complaints go unheard, then oh well.  Our orders are submitted, and they are final.  At least by chatting in this forum, we can share our experiences.

By the way, I'm in the same boat as you.  My old 40 gig iPod died a couple weeks ago, and that's how I got started on this Zune journey.  I'm really in withdrawal. :)  I've been bringing CD's to work with me every day, but it only took me a couple of days to realize that what I pick in the morning isn't what I want to listen to in the afternoon.  There's no going back once you start using a digital media player...  I really do hope my Zune ships soon!

I mean, hey, if it makes you feel better, then just tell me to stfu. But in my opinion, this is just the same as when my mom yells at the "bad drivers" on the road. It doesn't change anything and it'll probably only make you feel worse. I just think that the negative energy of saying "Oh, Microsoft sucks. Should have stuck with an iPod. Am telling my peeps not to order a Zune! Rawrg!" could be used for something better.

Am sorry to hear about your iPod. I tried burning some CDs so that I could lie in bed and write while listening to music, but it turns out my system won't play them so I'm like... tethered down to the desktop for music. I feel your pain

telling you to stfu probably would make me feel better.  however, discussing with others who share my issues actually does make me feel better.

i'm not sure why it bothers you so much or how i have offended you.

and to clarify:
1.  i never said MS sucks.  am i disappointed?  yes.
2.  i'm not going to tell my friends not to buy a zune (they can see for themselves that i don't have it yet).

re: Anyone have their Red 80 yet?

I don't know.  Maybe it's like the blues.  You sing about how bad your life sucks, and it makes you feel better.

Well, they say my iPod left me,

And Apple bores me today.

But then I saw that bright red Zune,

And I said to Apple "No Way!"

I found a design,

And it fit my vibe,

And the inscription was super cool.

So I ordered online

And got a reply,

And now I am playing the fool.

I've got the Original blues.

I've got the Original blues.

I'm missing my tunes

Cause I've got the Original blues.

My Zune is delayed,

I've been waiting for days,

But it feels like forty-three nights.

Now I just have ten songs

to play all day long,

and my ears are no longer right.

I've got the Original blues.

I've got the Original blues.

I'm missing my tunes

Cause I've got the Original blues.

Now my Zune's at the factory,

Waiting for a machine to do some scratching,

Before it comes to me.

Some day it will ride

On a slow boat from Shanghai,

But today it's as quiet as can be.

I've got the Original blues.

I've got the Original blues.

I'm missing my tunes

Cause I've got the Original blues.

See what happens when I can't listen to music?  I've got nothing but time!  Seriously though, I don't take the situation personally.  I've been waiting for two weeks, and it sucks, but the Zune will come in due time.  In the meantime, I'll just keep coming up with crappy song lyrics and post them to random message boards on the Internet.

Good luck getting your CD's to burn.  If your burning software has an option to "Close the Session," that's probably what you need to do.  You can try this link for more info on burning audio CD's with Vista and Windows Media Player.  Or if you haven't downloaded the Zune software yet, you can try burning a CD with that.  I haven't tried that yet though, so I don't know how well it works.

Thanks! That was great!  Big Smile [:D] Music [8]

At this point, I'm switching to hoping they don't send mine for a while, as I'm leaving town to go to my grandmother's funeral, and won't be back for a week...

Sorry to hear about your grandmother.  Best wishes to you and your family.  This definitely puts these troubles into perspective.

Thanks. Yeah, it does, doesn't it. Smile [:)]

She had a long and happy life, and the end came quickly. A bit unexpected really, but I think that's the way I would prefer it myself.
