Cannot Install Zune Driver

windows xp home edition


i got 3 usb ports and i know they all working i have other devices and they show
on the usb ports

It's connected under "Portable Device" with "Zune" under it, with a little ! on a yellow yield sign over the icon.  When I look at the properties for the device, it tells me that there is no driver installed, and I need to install the driver.  When I install the driver, it tells me it couldn't install the driver because "The system cannot find the file specified."  This also doesn't show up in the event log.  It does the same if I let it find the file automatically (such as when I plug it into the computer) or if I drill down though the driver wizard and show it the exact file to use.  I've compared the zune.inf file I have to the samples posted elsewhere, so I know it's not just a corrupt file or anything.  Ultimately, the file it can't find isn't the obvious one, but something in the background that it's not giving me clues about.

xp home edition
with 3working usb ports all working great and not working
or showing when i coneect  my new zune

my driver is intere but is not showing it into the usb port
i can see it on the drive manager

I have XP home edition, SP2.  Can't remember the version number--5.1.somethng, obviously, but it's completely updated with the latest patches.

open c:\windows\setupapi.log in notepad, look near the end of the file for the time stamp when you installed Zune, then look for USB references or any errors after that point.

 

Post anything that looks like it could be an error and hopefully it will provide some clues.

This is not quite what you'd asked for, as I've been fiddling with my system so much since I installed the software that I couldn't actually track down those things.  This is what the log records when I plug my zune in to the computer and it gives me the error message:
