re: The Empty Battery

Seriously,  can we get some kind of update or response from the Microsoft Zune team (thats reads/participates in this forum).

We understand you are working on it, but any other information you can provide would be very much appreciated I'm sure.  Any estimated date on a firmware update?  Is this the #1 bug that you all are working on?

Are you experiencing this issue on your own Zunes?

re: The Empty Battery
My Zune is CONSTANTLY doing this now. It's sped up in frequency and if I forget to do a hard shut down then the next time I try to turn it on......nothing.

Please fix this. I like my Zune, it just needs improvements.

Me too
Glad to hear others are having this problem and that it is just a software problem. I thought my new Ford Sync system was draining the battery on the device after leaving it in the car overnight.

I guess so, but you probably won't like it.

We understand you are working on it, but any other information you can provide would be very much appreciated I'm sure.

I had tacos for dinner last night.  mmmm.... tacos....

Any estimated date on a firmware update?

Announcements for firmware updates come through the marketing department.  Since I'm not marketing I cannot comment on when, or if, any alleged update might be released.  Nor can I ask them to make an announcement.  Were I to associate with marketing in any way my IQ would drop by half and the cost of my wardrobe would double.

Is this the #1 bug that you all are working on?

Hmm... define "working."  Eh, never mind.  No, we are not all working on it.  For instance, I'm currently responding to a post asking about the status of a battery bug.

Are you experiencing this issue on your own Zunes?

Nope, because I pressed the super secret button combination that makes everything work perfectly.  Too bad it's only available to Zune staffers.

----------------------------------

Slightly more serious responses...

Is it the #1 bug being worked on?  Depends on who you talk to.  There certainly have been a number of hardware people working on this issue over the past several weeks.  However, I expect the people responsible for coding the Zune Marketplace haven't placed it very high on their priority list.

Do I have this issue on my Zune?  No, I do not personally have this issue on my Zune 30 or Zune 4 even though I am running the same build you are.  I blame dark matter.

Estimated date on an update?  I was being serious for that part.

I know I'm an offender in looking for answers from the Zune Team, but that post was hilarious and informing. Thanks. (So where can we find the marketing team?)

re: The Empty Battery
According to the Zune Insider blog, a Microsoft employee acknowledges the issue and says there will be a "December update (similar to last year)". So hopefully they will push that update out before Christmas when everyone opens their Zunes, so they can get that update when they hook it up to their computer.

Here is the blog post: http://zuneinsider.com/archive/2007/12/14/battery-life-of-zune-after-upgrading.aspx

re: The Empty Battery
The article that talks about this potentially being fixed says that it only affects a small number of zunes.  How do they know that?  So I just wanted to say that I too am affected by the dead battery bug, and patiently waiting for a fix.

Make sure you are on update 2.3.  Released today.  You need to do a firmware update if you are not.  That will hopefully remedy the problem for you.

re: The Empty Battery

Nope, I have updated the firmware on my Zune 30 and I am still having the problem too. Though I think I may know of a stiuation that causes it:

* When I get to work I take my black Zune 30 out, plug in the headphones and flip the hold switch off.
* At this point the Zune 30 wakes up, the screen shows the battery at about 90%
* I get distracted and don't touch the Zune until after lunch, when I go to start playing music the screen shows the battery at about 20%

So I'm thinking that the screen turns off, but it doesn't auto-sleep after a hold switch initiated wake up with no other activity.
