re: Re: re: It's ALIVE!

I was patient and kept up on bookmarks of all the forums , this one especially.  This morning I set it back on its dock, and after a bit, zune software started up. I let it take a charge for awhile and took it off the cradle - works fine.

I was sad that it broke because as many that find it necessary to post on these forums when it broke, I use the hell out of mine. I don't think i've listened to a CD since I got it. I enjoy the added features too.  I was hoping that they would not work and I could upgrade to an 80gb cuz yeah, i've got way more that I want to put on here. So.. all you music freaks out there like me - hang tight. Mine worked this morning and put a smile on my face.

Either way, regardless of what I saw on here and everyone jumping ship.. I farking hate iTunes and and iCrap so i'd rather go back to my Sandisk and let windows manage files than go to another proprietary software based player. but i'm stoked that my Zune is gonna keep on tickin .

re: Re: re: It's ALIVE!

My Zune 30 is frozen. What should I do?

Follow these steps:

1. Disconnect your Zune from USB and AC power sources.

2. Because the player is frozen, its battery will drain—this is good. Wait until the battery is empty and the screen goes black. If the battery was fully charged, this might take a couple of hours.

3. Wait until after noon GMT on January 1, 2009 (that's 7 a.m. Eastern or 4 a.m. Pacific time).

4. Connect your Zune to either a USB port on the back or your computer or to AC power using the Zune AC Adapter and let it charge.

Once the battery has sufficient power, the player should start normally. No other action is required—you can go back to using your Zune!

My Zune 30 has been working fine today. Should I be worried?

Nope, your Zune is fine and will continue to work as long as you do not connect it to your computer before noon GMT on January 1, 2009 (7 a.m. Eastern or 4 a.m. Pacific time).

Note: If you connect your player to a computer before noon GMT on January 1, 2009,  you'll experience the freeze mentioned above—even if that computer does not have the Zune software installed. If this happens, follow the above steps.

What if I have rights-managed (DRM) content on my Zune?

Most likely, rights-managed content will not be affected by this issue. However, it's a good idea to sync your Zune with your computer once the freeze has been resolved, just to make sure your usage rights are up to date.

What if I took advice from the forums and reset my Zune by disconnecting the battery?

This is a bad idea and we do not recommend opening your Zune by yourself (for one thing, doing so will void your warranty). However, if you've already opened it, do one of the following:

·    Wait 24 hours from the time that you reset the Zune and then sync with your computer to refresh the usage rights; or

Delete the player's content using the Zune software (go to Settings, Device, Sync Options, Erase All Content), then re-sync it from your collection.

re: Re: re: It's ALIVE!

Posted this in another thread but here's the deal with me: mine STILL isn't working.  I followed the instructions (including the ones for those who cracked the case for the "hard reboot"), waited until after noon GMT after letting the battery die before trying to recharge.  I've tried the recharge like 3 times and it still freezes on the reboot screen.  Though I really wouldn't mind upgrading to the 80 gig I really don't want to go through transferring all my music, games and videos to the new device (hoping nothing gets lost in the process) unless I absolutely have to.  BTW, I got mine a year ago for Christmas so the waranty had already expired when this mass "Zune-icide" occured so cracking the case didn't void anything. Please tell me that I'm not the only one who's still having problems.

Evidently I'm not the only one.  Just tried the recharge (again) and it's still bricking.  Looks like the upgrade whether I want it or not, not if I want to keep all the music I downloaded along with the videos and games.  Just hope I don't lose anything when I transfer...

To those still having freezing issues

Are making 100% sure that the battery is COMPLETELY dead????

You will know if it is dead when the screen goes black. Once the freeze happens you can not turn off the Zune there for you have no choice but to let it die out. When you plug it onto the charge you should see the Battery icon.

Also ... might not help but make sure the date on your PC is correct ... might help not too sure though.

You guys aren't the only ones, mine is still not working either.  Coincidentally I bought a new higher capacity battery just days ago, and installed it the day before this happened, now I have to let it discharge and ruin my new battery(which I've done countless times already and it still doesn't work)

re: Re: re: It's ALIVE!
Yes, I let the screen go black (all 4 times) and yes, the date on my computer is correct. I'm about ready to say the hell with it and save my money for the 80 gig or even the 16 gig.  You  may consider that a downgrade but even with 600+ songs, over 30 videos and the two games that came with the newest upgrade to the firmware, I used less than 3 gigs out of the 30 so I figure that 16 will be more than enough and it'll save me about 50 bucks in the process.  If I go that route (either up to the 80 or down to the 16) I hope I can effect the transfer without losing what I have.  Which brings up a question, will the software for the 30 work with either the 80 or the 16 so I can just transfer from my current software to the new device or will I have to install the software for the new device (and possibly have to repurchase my music from the Marketplace)?

re: Re: re: It's ALIVE!
Sucks that some of you guys/gals are still having issues.  Deep discharging a lithium battery isn't really a good idea, and I'm assuming these 3.7v cells have protection circuits in them to keep them from discharging past 2.6volts.

Anyways, I was the 9th post in this thread, and mine just came back up operational just now.  It sat unplugged and discharged all day yesterday.

Best of luck to all of you!

re: Re: re: It's ALIVE!
Maybe leaving mine in the closet (put it there so I wouldn't keep getting frustrated at the brick it is now) for the next day or so will get mine to working again. Here's hoping...  Fortunately I haven't been using mine much in the past couple weeks since I've been on vacation and I usually use it on those bus rides home so I guess I'm past the initial "withdrawal" stage. :)  Again here's hoping a couple days in a dark closet will get its act together and start working...  Thanks for the advice. May not work but hey, it's better than nothing, right?
