I would do this only as a last resort unless you don't mind reloading everything. 

first i got the zune logo screen

then this morning it came on but at some screens it loads slower now =\

so now im waiting for the batt to die to see what will happen

Heres what i did after i got the same issue. I let the battery drain and that is totally drain then i charge my device about 3 to 4 hours. after fully charging the device i turn it on. Presto! its working now. i hope you can try and hope your device will be fine:) Goodluck

Hi there, i got the same issue so what i did is i let it fully drain first then let it charge with out touching it untill it was fully charge then when i tried to turn it on..Perfect! it's working..i hope yours will work too:)good luck

My Zune is now working ok, but I cannot launch my Zune Software, I get this error message Zune encountered a critical error and needs to close. its stuck at the "clearing contents" screen now..

this is bull

It sounds like it's working the more stuff you had on your zune the longer it will take.

yea thats what i thought too

til it erased everything THEN went back to the "clearing contents" screen and froze AGAIN

well you knew it was going to erase everything.  I havent heard of anyone else having that problem.

I finally got mine working again.  Thank goodness!

mine is back to working fine! :) All my songs were on it and i;m listening to Coldplay's Viva La Vida cd in celebration on my zune dock. Life is beautiful. I did exactly what they said, let the battery drain and put it on the charger this afternoon. Went back to the charger later, looked at it and my menu screen was up, went into music and all the artists/songs etc were there.

I have had the same problem, did everything it said to do, drain it rechage it, wait, but because I opened it even after my warranty they wont replace it. Even though I am not liable for MS mistake with the clock issues they said because I opened it, I'm responsible. This happened to millions of people worldwide, not just me, people trying to access there music new years eve, and still they won't fix it without me paying. This is absolute BS!!! I had this Zune for 2 years, I loved it, no problems ever and boom it freezes up worldwide, and because I wanted to see if I might be able to reset it, and no results now I'm liable. There will be action, I'm sure I'm not the only one who just got ripped off, for no reason. Happy New Year. Yeah.
