re: Zune 30 freezing issue

try this

if  your zune battery is all drain (no ! on the screen ) do the following: use the AC adapter and start to charge the zune. you will be seeing on the screen the battery logo with the power cord.  when you see the zune logo (when zune is booting up) Quickly press and hold Back + Left + OK (use your thumb to press Left + OK ) at the same time until you see a message in english, french and spanish. wait until you see a message that indicate to connect the zune to the pc. after that the zune is ready to reinstall the firmware and then sync time. in case that you miss the chance on doing the sequence drain the battery again and repeat. if you already opened the zune you can try to do the process just disconnecting the battery and doing the Press and hold Back + Left + OK if you don't have an AC adapter try connecting the zune to pc on then logon screen or with out zune software. good luck on that! sorry if any type errors but english is not my language.

Mine is still dead. It charges up enough now to tell me "Connect Zune to your PC" and freezes there. Yes, I did the left+up+ok fix. My Zune apparently doesn't realize it's plugged up. Before it would go dead then charge up just enough to tell me the battery is low, then it would die even if it was plugged up, unless I played something while it was plugged up, then it would play it as long as I kept it plugged. I never should have tried to "fix" it becuase at least then I could still watch and listen to stuff as long as I kept it plugged. I keep connecting it to the computer in the front, the back, unplug, replug, let it die again and retry, nothing. My Zune is my favorite "toy" and now it's a paperweight, which sucks cause I don't use a lot of paper:-(
mine is doing this, MS has been unable/willing to help so far

Try telling the Zune app on your pc to forget the device before you connect it to the pc.  Then if that does work, create a new relationship with a different name for the device than what you used to have.

Jason, read the original post carefully. They are NOT working on it. They are reckoning the "issue will resolve itself."

re: Zune 30 freezing issue

Problem with a hard reset is that if your laptop was stolen, you will lose all your music. My zune was full of MP3s that I have no way of recovering.  I have done the battery drain but will not erase my content.  This is a Microsoft problem and if they wont fix it I will do what I have done with all their other product, return to the store, one way or the other.  Maybe this would be a good oppurtunity for those money hungry attornies to start up another class action law suite!  Please do!  There will be no shortage of plaintiffs.  It is a shame that is the only way to get MS to respond to a problem.

re: Zune 30 freezing issue - [Update and Resolution]

I'm an IT Tech (Computer builder and repair tech). Is there anyone w/ a 30 GB MS Zune Brick located anywhere near N.W. Arizona (Kingman, AZ), that wishes to allow me to try to fix their MS 30 GB Zune brick (without opening it up at all...as I wouldn't want to affect the warranty), for free? (I wish to write an easy to follow step-by-step process to post in the forum so others can fix theirs themselves after I succeed or offer the service for fairly low cost to many). I'm more than tenacious when it comes to solving problems...I flat refuse to give up.

I'll watch the forum for an answer then we can go off forum to arrange how you get it to me. You would need to get it to me in person or send it UPS or mail or such. I originally won an 8GB in the MS/AMD Vanishingpoint game at the release of Vista and gave that one to my middle Son for a grad. gift a year and a half ago (But since it isn't a 30GB unit it didn't suffer the clock problem).

Sometimes an MS fix doesn't work because the average user isn't a technical person and the technician doesn't give a complete answer (like the problem will resolve itself, just wait until Jan 1, 2009, let it run down, charge it back up and then synch it again).......MS, that isn't a complete answer to all the steps it takes to turn your sold MS bricks back into real Zunes again according to what I have read here.

I would prefer to work on one that belongs to someone that has all their music backed up elsewhere as I do not wish to be responsible (nor will I be responsible for), for the data loss or recovery (in every instance of repair, troubleshooting the loss of data, in this case music, is a definite risk).

Anyone willing to take a shot for the good of the community?

My Zune 30 is still locking on the load screen.

Kind of feel like I've been hung out to dry on this.

re: Zune 30 freezing issue
I have done this fix you have been kind enough to give many of us, and I have done it 3 times and my Zune is frozen on the "clearing screen" is been this way for over 3 hours! I know it shouldn't take that long to clear the content, any idea's, I'm about ready to buy a ZEN instead, I really LOVE my Zune and I'm deployed in Iraq so I spend a lot of time with it. Any ideas would be helpful!!!

Well due to the late notice I got the screwdriver out and reset the battery when it was fully charged the lock screen was on and the zune wouldnt respond so I took it apart again and unplugged the hard drive and the clip broke now Im willing to pay for most of the repairs but shouldnt zune cover some of the cost due to the very late notice they gave everyone
