re: Cannot Install Zune Driver

DBurelson, look in the c:\windows\setupapi.log file for the portion that covers the time when you were uninstalling Zune and see if those errors are listed.  If so, post that portion of the log.  You may be getting the uninstall errors for the same reason you're having errors during the install.

If the rollback message is for Windows Media Player, that should be ok.  The UMDF components come with WMP 11, so if you rollback to WMP 10, you are going back to before UMDF was installed (by WMP 11 at least).

The two key items to remove in addition to Zune are "Windows Media Player 11" and "Windows Media Format 11 Runtime".

The service that needs to be reinstalled/fixed is "Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework".  Installing WMP 11 will install this service/component.  If this service is started or you can get it started, you may not be experiencing this particular problem.

re: Cannot Install Zune Driver

OldHippeChick, you are most likely having a video/graphics driver problem.  It sounds like the setup is working, you just can't see it.

I would look in the control panel -> display->settings for something about "hardware acceleration" or 3D graphics and turn it off/on.

re: Cannot Install Zune Driver

I am having the exact same problem as everyone else. I have tried all the fixes that are posted aside from the 'advanced' functions as I am NOT a computer TECH. I am a front end user who bought the older Zune for FUN and ENTERTAINMENT because I didnt want an IPOD. However this is rediculous it is frustrating and it needs to be resolved.

by the way what the heck does 'class installer denied request' mean??

Goggles,

I tried all the settings my computer would allow in the hardware acceleration dept. but no improvement.  Just the blank screen.  Do I have to have

Media Center 2005?  This is odd because I have no other graphics problems that im aware of.

re: Cannot Install Zune Driver

OldHippeChick, I can't say for sure if you need media center 2005.  Media center for the most part is an application.  If you have XP SP2 that should be enough.  In any case, setup should tell you if the computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements.

I've entered a bug for the blank/black screen you're getting, and I'll respond when I ahve some additional information.  In the meatime, you might want to try a different screen resolution and change from True Color (32/24 bit) to High Color (16 bit) or vice-versa.  That may change your video settings enough to get the setup to be visible.

re: Cannot Install Zune Driver

DBurleson, it looks like you have had Zune V1 installed, is that correct?

Try to delete the following files and then reconnect the device.  The first is from the V1 install and the second is from the V2 install.  The correct one should be recreated once you connect the device.  If it doesn't, reinstall the Zune V2 software and try again.  It looks as though it is selecting the correct file, but since you are having problems we should get rid of the old one.

C:\WINDOWS\inf\oem82.inf

C:\WINDOWS\inf\oem58.inf

re: Cannot Install Zune Driver

Are you sure?  According to the log, you had it at 4pm yesterday.  Did you uninstall Zune last night?

Do you see the oem58.inf file?

re: Cannot Install Zune Driver

Even once media player is removed, there may still be files left in the folder.  that's ok.

Once you remove those apps and reinstall and try again, go to the setupapi.log file, look at the bottom for at time stamp like this and then post the portion of the file after that.  You don't need to send the whole file.
