I tried the sugested fix several times and it still left me with a frozen brick and since i don't have an extended warranty i cracked the puppy open and it worked

pull the battery plug wait 10 sec. re-attach battery cable but before it reboots hold the left button and center and left arrow for a full reset as well as going into settings and under software where it says forget all devices unplug zune from computer then back in again. Go through complete setup as if it were the first day all over again and this does work the software will reload new firmware and software upgrades at the same time. then reload all media which in my case will take hours

i'm currently at a 68% sync

if your like me and don't have an extended warranty and don't want to wait and pay the extra money to send it back to microjerks use very small screw driver for glasses and take your time

DUDE IT WORKED :D
re-installing firmware rite now!
FINALLY
ZY2K IS OVER :D

I've had my Zune plugged up to my computer because I left for New Years Eve and was afraid to let it die... but now I saw the notice and unplugged it and am waiting for it to die. How long should this take? Are most people's 30s working like normal again?

I also have checked my software... it always has come up saying it was up to date, but I checked and it actually said I was using Version 2.5.447.0

Should I download 3.0 and use it? If I do this, will it save all my content (music, pictures, playlists, etc) I currently have?

Thanks for the help!

it shouldn't take longer than 3-4 hours to die. mine didn't. if it does, then.. well, just give it time.

more importantly: you probably should update, though i doubt that it's essential. it will save your music, pictures, videos, podcasts, but maybe not your playlists or settings. that's only probable

One mustn't be "geeky" to visit a support forum, only slightly intelligent and self-motivated. Sorry, but to me it's just common sense to research a problem with a mechanical or electronicdevice when a problem occurs.

I had the same problem everyone else had and was just as frustated but still had the presence of mind and apparently more importantly, the time, to open a browser and visit Zune.net.

Hey Scott I'm with ya, a little patience and perserverance goes a long way.  I really don't think you have to open it up and disconnect the battery unless you're in a hurry and want to take the risks.  Waiting for it to discharge does the same thing.  It took me five times to get the three finger salute to work then I was able to get it all restored.  Right now I am doing wireless syncing and it's running like a champ.  BTY love your site too.

I'm not sure if there is anyone whose Zune didn't start working yet. It took me three times today before I actually got it to work. I plugged mine in at 7:30 AM (30 minutes after MS said to) but it still locked up. So I let it drain the battery again back to where it went black. When I plugged it back in it failed again. This time I let it charge for about an hour. I got tired of waiting so I unplugged it and let it drain the battery again. It finally when dead again around 1 PM. This time I wanted to make sure it was completely dead. I kept pressing the play button till the battery symbol didn't come up anymore. I also found that if I flipped the lock on and back off it would also pop up the battery symbol. I did this for several times until the battery symbol would not come up anymore. Then I plugged the Zune back in with the lock ON. I have absolutely no idea if this helped anything. But when it charged up IT FINALLY WORKED!  Maybe my internal clock was half a day behind I don't know. Maybe this will help someone who still hasn't had any luck getting their Zune working. Hope everyone is enjoying their Zune. Happy New Year!
