setup tells you that you are missing a package?

If you've experienced problems installing the latest Zune software and setup tells you that you are missing a package, please download the following bundled installer.

http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/5/7/4578afd6-a0b6-4724-89e5-ba9395ea6a6d/ZunePackage.exe

1. download package

2. run package to extract to your computer

3. go to directory that you extracted to, run startzune.exe

4. proceed with installation, following instructions

Didn't solve the problem.

But now there's about 10 threads with this 'solution' floating through the forum.

Clean system (no previous zune software installed)

Installing from 166mb zunepackage (or 33mb file):

System Updates Required

Zune fostware installation can't continue until you've installed one or more required updates

Windows update must be updated to run this program

-Tried disabling network, tried installing packages from support.microsoft.com

No change.

This is word-for-word the problem I am having both before and after using your fix.  I am installing on a XP SP2 machine.

 

Installation Failed

Setup must stop because the required package 'Zune' failed to install.

Custom Action 10:49:47.437: Operation 'InstallDriver' has finished with the result 0x80070643.

Custom Action 10:49:47.890: Operation 'RemoveDriver' has finished with the result 0x80004005.

DIFXAPP: Rollback failed with error 0x2

Error code: 0x80070643

Same problem here on vista ultimate 32 wont install even with the new all in one package

Still doesnt work for me either.  Plus I dont understand instructions above.. Step three says to go to extraction directory and run 'startzune.exe' my extraction folders contain only a file called 'zunesetup.exe' 

Error message:

System Updates Required

Zune software installation can't continue until you've installed one or more required updates

Windows Update must be updated to run this program.

I cannot run Windows Update as my sysadmins have disabled this feature.  All Updates are tested first by company IT department and pushed out to PC's through corporate intranet.

Doesn't really matter I guess, they got rid of autplaylists (DUMB!!!) so I dont know if I want to install anyway.

Thanks that worked for me! Running x64 Vista Ultimate. Upgraded over old Zune software.

I was getting an package not found error for Watson when I tried to run the x64 zunesetuppkg-x64.exe to install the new software.

Not sure if it mattered at all, but I was reading previous installation threads and had killed the System Restore process before I ran the install of the ZunePackage.exe.

this message means that you need to get a required update from microsoft update/windows update before proceeding. head to http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate and get the required package you need so that you can use microsoft update

Mcevoys,

The software is saying that Windows Update itself needs an update.  In IE, go to the Windows Update site and it will update itself.

After that the Zune software will install normally.

"Zune software installation can't continue until you've installed one or more required updates

Windows update must be updated to run this program"
