30GB suddenly stopped working, says Contact Support
I was listening to my Zune (30GB, 1st model, 3.1/newest firmware) & all of a sudden, my music stopped playing. I figured "oops, I accidentally hit pause" & checked, but it was still on Play & was frozen. After a few seconds, it went black & then went to the Zune logo, but the white loading bar did not appear. After about 5-ish minutes, it went to a screen w/ a Zune w/ a x on a screen (it says 5 to the left of it) & says "Contact Support". I tried resetting it & then shutting it down & then waiting about a hour, but it did the same thing. I also let the battery run out of power & charged it up again, but it's still doing it... Is there any reason it could be doing this? The only time I had a problem like this (where my Zune wouldn't turn on) was that leap year bug.

Usually when it says contact support it ultimately means you'll have to send it in. However, since we're talking about a Zune 30 that's not possible. Your device suffered a critical internal error that it can't recover from.

So there's no chance of it being fixed? Am I forced to buying a new Zune/MP3 player? I really hope not, because of the financial situation my parents & I are in, it would be a VERY long time before I could afford a new one....

Well here's the official knowledge base about it, but if those first couple of suggestions don't help, then yeah you may have to just replace the player.

I can hear it trying to start up in the back (perhaps it's the hard drive that's the problem?). I don't understand why it randomly just stopped working today when nothing has happened to it....& it also doesn't seem like it wants to try & restore itself... May I ask why I can't send it to Microsoft & have them look at it?? They still support it, don't they?

I'm pretty sure your device is out of warranty, so even if they did look at it, the charge for it alone would justify just purchasing a new device anyway.

The same thing happened to my Zune 80GB. I'm saddened by this because its a really great player and I'm not able to buy another one at present time.
