Zune 30 Issue

Hey folks.  Brian [MossyRoc] from the Zune team here. I just posted inside one the threads but wanted to get one up here too.  We realize there is an issue with the Zune 30 and a team is working hard right now to isolate the issue and develop a plan.  I will be providing you with updates as I can.  I [we] appreciate your patience, I realize this is an inconvenience and we are working hard to remedy the issue.

Brian.

re: Zune 30 Issue
Should any of us be worried about hardware damage?  Mine had pretty close to a full charge when it bricked and I can hear the hard drive spinning away and the Zune is getting pretty warm.  Could this problem damage the hard drive, cause burn-in to the screen, or do other nastiness to the hardware?

If yes, and I doubt I'll get a response to this question, will there be recourse for Zune 30 owners who experience hardware damage related to this issue?

I'm wondering if this is a ploy to sell new Zunes. I received my 30g. For Christmas Last year 2007. So now with no Warrenty what can I exspect for help?

re: Zune 30 Issue

You can take apart the Zune and disconnect the battery. This will reset the clock and enable the drive to stop running. How ever after doing so do not plug into the computer until the update for this problem has been made. The computer will update the clock thus bricking it again. Here is a web site for instructions. http://www.rapidrepair.com/guides/zune/zuneassemblyguide.htm

PS. This will void any warrenty you may have.

PSS. I have done this and it was easy and yes it worked. Just don't update the time or date

Thanks, Brian.  I appreciate the update.  I'll continue to monitor the forums.

It sucks to be you guys.  Not a lot of New Years Eve partying going to be going on around the Zune team this evening.  Being in the software business, I've been there and done that.  It's not fun.

Thanks for the hard work, and we'll be looking forward to an update.

Being that this is affecting a HUGE number of users, Microsoft has to fix the problem. This isn't a user-caused problem. This is a Microsoft-caused problem, most likely in the firmware. I am not happy that my 30GB is bricked right now, but I will be patient and see what they say today (This does need to be fixed TODAY).

Some people have unbricked theirs by resetting the battery (Opening the unit...). It might be as simple as draining the battery. As I said, I am going to wait.

I got mine for christmas in 07, too. I turned mine off shortly before midnight, but when I turned it on, i didn't notice any whirring or anything, it just took a few tries to get it unlocked and as soon as I hit play, it  turned black and went to the reset screen like everyone else's...It just now died from low battery...It did get rather hot, though... Taking apart the Zune doesn't seem like such a good idea and most people are saying it didn't work, just so you know....Draining the battery doesn't work either, I've read...mine just died but I don't think I'm gonna recharge it, at least not for the time being...

You pick up the phone and I'm so relieved...

One man's "inconvenience" is another man's "ripoff". Hope something big is coming very soon, Microsoft, because the class-action clock is ticking. What if every Honda Civic suddenly wouldn't start this morning? Would Honda tell people to wait 6-8 weeks for a new car?

Taking apart the Zune probably voids the warranty (you'd have to read the warranty statement), assuming yours is still covered.

No, but who knew one of the signs of the Apocalypse was worldwide Zune failure! Devil [6]
