80GB freezes (occasionally) on play.

I hit play with the center button on a song like normal and then it instantly locks up the player without playing a sound or changing to the now playing screen. This happened once a few days ago but just today it happened twice. The only way out of it is to restart the device.

Mine did that a couple of times today. I found turning it off and letting it sit for a half hour seemed to clear up the problem.....

Sounds like a bug introduced by the 3.0 update. Or did you experience this previously? I hope a mod checks this out.

I don't recall it ever doing that before....sometimes it would go slower, but not freeze....

My 80gb started doing something similar two days ago, about 8 hours before I updated the software.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927001/en-us
I can turn it on and within about ten seconds it freezes then shuts down.  If I start a song, it will play for a few seconds, then the song freezes and it shuts down.  I've tried reformatting the player and reinstalling everything; however, it only does the short restart and when I try to do the next step as its restarting by pressing all three keys, it simply doesn't recognize and starts right back up, then shuts down again.  So as of now, I can't even get it to to a full system reset.  Anyone have any wisdom on this topic or know how to reformat the whole hard drive and reinstall everything without having to press the keys in the certain pattern?

Its more than likely its due to the update. I have a Zune 80 too but this doesn't happen and hopefully it doesn't.

Mine did this the day of the update but since then its been fine. It was also very slow that day even after it was restarted. But now everything is back to normal with no freezing or slowness. I think it might be an issue is caching the stuff on the device.

If you hold back button and up on the pad it will reboot the device. This will resolve these types of issues

It doesn't "resolve" the issue, it merely makes it possible to play a few more songs before it occurs again.

Saying this is resolved is like saying cleaning an infected wound once will keep you from it ever getting infected again ;)

A little harsh, but yes, I already know how to restart and the same can be said on about any other device problem, but if it's persistent (so far it is) then it needs to be fixed. I'll give it a few days to see if it sticks around.

My zune has been doing the same thing before 3.0, so it has nothing to do with the new update. I was expecting the update to fix the problem, and the incapable morons at support offer no help. I'd rather use my cheap $70 mp3 player, Microsoft is pathetic.. fix your piece of *** product.

1. The people at Support aren't engineers by any means.  They are meant to help with things that are in the database. If it's not in the database they can't do anything other than offer a replacement device.

2. Your attitude is ridiculous. How would you like me to call you an incapable moron if you don't know how every piece of equipment that you deal with in your job works down to the last detail?
