  My friend thought I would like the band Slipknot, but I have never listened to them before.  What THREE songs from their entire history of playing should I download and try out?

My instinct tells me that you're gonna be getting 3 different ideas from everyone. You may just want to use the samples available at the Marketplace to get some sort of idea. Or listen to their music at their website.

Since you don't really know their music, start with the more mainstream stuff like "Before I Forget", "Wait and Bleed" etc.  Some personal faves of mine are "Vermillion" and "Eyeless"....happy listening!

Youtube is your best friend, or just listen to samples. I like "Surfacing", "Heretic Anthem" and "Pulse of the Maggots"
