The Empty Battery

My mom and my sister, who have just gotten there Zune's sometime last week have been having an error with both of their devices. The Zunes are fully charged, but the following day (and they don't use them so much) the battery will just be completely dead. I'm not sure if it's a manufacturing error or what but it's getting pretty annoying. Help?

I wonder if this is the problem mine is having.

Mine was fully charged yesterday and did not use it for more than a song or two, today I try using it and it's completely dead. I tried plugging it in to see if it would connect to the computer with no luck, the computer recognizes a device is plugged in but the Zune remains inoperative.

Yup, same here.  Sometimes I have to unplug/plug/unplug/plug a few times.  If the Zune turns on and then tries syncing and then shut off, then it's haning on something.

Today I noticed it hung on a podcast so I removed the podcast entirely - it helped. 

But that doesn't explain the battery issue.  Indifferent [:|]

I too have had this problem. Last night my Zune was fully charged. I shut it off and went to use it this morning and the battery image was on the screen. The battery was completely dead. I finally (after an hour of working with it) got it to start charging. This isn't the first time its happened to me.

Does Microsoft do repairs? Is there an RMA process? If so, where is the documentation?

Sadly, my Zune 80 is doing the same thing. I played it for probably 20 minutes last night while running around and doing errands and then came home and put it on my nightstand. This morning, dead as a doornail. I'm going to try and start turning it off by using the Back + Down combo and see how that works. My suspicion is that it's not hibernating properly and that it's just sucking the battery life down to nothing.

I think this is a firmware issue.  I have a Zune 30 and my friend just bought one a few days before the new firmware came out.  Both of us have had the same issue arise only after updating to the new firmware.  If was a hardware problem, we would have seen it with the old firmware also, I believe.

I have a 30gb also and have this problem that has just started happening right after the new update. This Update is the worst that I have ever experianced before.

Same issue Here.... I fully charged my new 80GB Zune last night before I went to bed, turned it off....

This morning, I tried to turn it on.... DEADSuper Angry [8o|]    WTF..... this seems to be a widespread problem.....

Even if the unit was in "standby" or left running for 6 hours, it should not be all the way dead....

It's like the hard drive was running the entire time..... What does MS Tech Support have to say???

Im deciding if I should buy an iPod or a Zune.  And your guys problems are making me really worried about buying a Zune.

I think you have it correct. It isn't hibernating at all. Mine is brand new so this is my inital software. When it hibernated in the past, did it wake up after hitting any button?

Anyway, I'm trying the BACK+DOWN method to turn it off also, I will post later to see if that worked.

I got mine back up after leaving it charged all day (I just got back to the office)

If you look close enough while it's idle the screen will still have a display and not be totally blank but it's very faint. I think this is the problem which is causing the battery to drain while left alone overnight, etc.

If the tech support reads this then the simple solution would be to have a new patch so that the screen goes totally blank when playing or not being used.

Well what happens now is that when I charge it to max (ie when the battery indicator is green) it works fine but the next day the same thing happens. It's getting to the point where they are going to take them back and get iPods...but iPods are bad too since if your burn out your battery you have to pay twice as much to get it replaced then what the actual device is worth.
