There's another thread that tells you how to "fix it" but it doesn't. I just tried it and it's still deleting my videos. I don't understand why i need songs on the computer in order for it to appear on the device. This software is a joke.
Set yourself up as a guest, it's the only way that does work. I hear you lose marketplace and podcasts, which doesn't bug me as I use neither. If you still want to use those, I think you're stuck until the future version that will do away with "Sync".
Guest since 2007
The easiest way to set up as a guest is click "forget this device" and hope it does. It should give you the home/guest opition sign-in page next time you plug in, although that never worked for me.
What does work for sure is to set another computer, one that you probably will never use with your Zune, as the home. Then every time you plug back into your computer, you'll get the opition screen and can just be a guest. I did it with my girlfriend's laptop and have loved my Zune ever since.

Then it didn't really forget it and you'll have to set another computer as home. Just be sure that it doesn't start syncing everything from where you set up at. Definitly do it on a computer you'll probably not use again (maybe try installing Zune software on a library comp.) I'm not sure how a computer that has someone else set to home would respond, it might just assume you are a guest and not give you the opition screen. Getting that screen is the only thing that matters.
