I don't necessarily want compatibility between WMP and Zune. Honestly I was hoping with 2.0 I'd be able to turn off WMP (which I've been using) and replace it with the new Zune software. I think the Zune software is far better in a lot of ways - the interface is nicer, it has better functionality (l like the new ratings system for example), and I love the new now playing screen - it looks really nice compared to WMP's plugins. Zune is more iTunes'ish, which I like. WMP has always felt more like a generic player, where as Zune is more targeted at the music aficionados’ of the world.
However, there is one huge problem with the Zune and that the fact that it doesn't integrate with windows the way WMP does. I can't seem to get streaming working at all between computers, the zune sharing service fails to show up in networking correctly, double clicking on the service fails to launch the zune software, and the media options in the network sharing service still apply to wmp, not the new (default) zune player.
If Microsoft could get this stuff integrated so that I could use it the same way I've used WMP in the past, I'd more than welcome the complete switch over. But as it stands that just can't happen at this point. Maybe we'll have better luck next year (or in two years, gasp) with 3.0.
