I ordered mine the day after they were announced, and all I've got is an e-mail a week later saying "Due to an unprecedented demand..." And a $275 hole in my pocket.
In calling the service center (both before and after the afformentioned e-mail) I've been blown off (very politely), lied to (less politely), and just generally frustrated.
I hope this is not typical...

I don't have an update on mine yet either. I ordered the evening of January 17th, and all I got was the order confirmation and the same delay email you received (on the 23rd). I guess the email did say that it would ship in 7-10 days, and we're only at 6 days now, but it's kind of disappointing. I didn't even bother calling the service center about the delay. I called the day after I ordered to try to change the shipping address (they politely said it is impossible), and if they can't even do that, I figured that there's no way they will have any clue about the status of my order.
We'll probably learn more by hanging around this message board waiting for people to post when they get shipping confirmations. :) I'll post when I get news on my order...

Well, whatever the issue is, at least it appears to be affecting all Zune Original 80 production. Not that delay is a good thing, but maybe we'll be getting something better out of the deal.
And just think how jealous your iPod friends will be when you show them the custom etching on the back!

The email that the support person is talking about is notice that it has been shipped. The notice will include a FedEx tracking code, which will (at long last) allow you to see exactly where in the world your Zune is, and guestimate when you will actually get it.

A free goody, in my opinion, should be necessary. Especially after all the calls everyone keeps making. It seems to me that a lot of people are not too happy with zune. This worries me because as each day goes by, I feel more and more like buying it was a bad idea. What I hope happens is that our new ones don't have the same problem that I read on another forum where the zunes are restarting while playing music. I'll be pretty upset if I had to wait for a faulty product. So hopefully our wait will be worth it.
